Map your SAP modules to SOC codes
USCIS evaluates H-1B eligibility by occupation code. SAP Business Analysts typically file under SOC 15-1211 or 13-1111. Confirm which code matches your primary module focus before your employer files, since mismatches trigger RFEs.
Pull prevailing wage data before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your SOC code and work location. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so know the floor before your offer is written.
Target consulting firms with bench hiring models
SAP consulting firms often sponsor H-1B holders for project-based placements, filing petitions before a specific client is confirmed. Ask recruiters directly whether they file H-1B petitions for bench consultants, not just placed employees.
Search employer LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and job title, so you can see which companies have actively filed for SAP Business Analyst roles before you apply, not after you get an offer.
Verify the specialty occupation argument for your role
USCIS requires that an SAP Business Analyst role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Review the O*NET profile for your occupation code and confirm your job description references that requirement explicitly.
Understand the cap-gap window during lottery season
If you're on OPT when your H-1B petition is selected in the lottery, cap-gap rules extend your work authorization through September 30. File with your employer at least 90 days before your OPT expires to avoid a work authorization gap.
H-1B Visa SAP Business Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an SAP Business Analyst role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS requires that the position normally demands at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as information systems, computer science, or business administration. A job description that lists a degree as preferred rather than required can weaken the specialty occupation argument, so your employer's offer letter and LCA should state the degree requirement clearly.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for SAP Business Analyst positions?
Large ERP consulting firms, systems integrators, and enterprise manufacturers with SAP environments are consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. Industries including automotive, pharmaceuticals, and financial services use SAP extensively and file petitions regularly. You can browse companies with verified LCA filing history for SAP Business Analyst roles on Migrate Mate before committing to an application.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect SAP Business Analyst job offers?
Your employer must certify through the DOL's LCA process that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your occupation code and work location. Wages are tiered from Level I to Level IV based on experience and complexity. If your work location changes to a new metro area mid-employment, your employer may need to file an amended LCA reflecting the prevailing wage for that location.
Can an SAP Business Analyst work at a client site on an H-1B visa?
Yes, but the employer of record must be the H-1B petitioner, not the client. Third-party placements require that your sponsoring employer maintain a bona fide employer-employee relationship, meaning they control your work, set your pay, and are the entity on your I-129 petition. USCIS scrutinizes consulting arrangements closely, so the petitioning employer's control over your day-to-day work should be documented clearly.
What happens to an SAP Business Analyst's H-1B status if the sponsoring employer changes?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you move to a new employer in a same or similar occupational classification after your petition has been pending for at least 180 days. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your last day at the sponsoring employer. SAP Business Analyst roles generally qualify as same or similar under the same SOC code, but the new employer's LCA must reflect the wage and location for the new position.
