Verify your degree maps to the role
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to customer insights work. A degree in statistics, marketing research, or data science creates a clean match. A general business degree may require a detailed credential evaluation to establish the specialty occupation connection.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search DOL LCA disclosure data to confirm a company has sponsored Customer Insights Analyst or closely related SOC codes before. Employers with prior filings have HR processes already in place, which shortens your offer-to-petition timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Run a Customer Insights Analyst search on Migrate Mate to surface employers whose H-1B LCA filings match this role's SOC code. This cuts out companies that list the title but have no sponsorship track record.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Look up your target metro area and SOC code in the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions. Your employer's LCA must certify at least the prevailing wage for your location and experience level, so knowing the floor protects your offer.
Get your portfolio documentation H-1B ready
Compile work samples showing quantitative analysis, survey design, or consumer segmentation projects. USCIS RFEs for analyst roles often challenge specialty occupation status, and employer letters supported by your own project evidence strengthen the petition.
Clarify cap-exempt eligibility with your employer
If a university research center, nonprofit, or qualifying government research organization is hiring you, the role may be cap-exempt, bypassing the annual H-1B lottery. Confirm the employer's cap-exempt status with USCIS guidance before the registration window opens.
H-1B Visa Customer Insights Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Customer Insights Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as market research, statistics, data science, or consumer psychology. Roles that accept any degree or list no specific field requirement can face USCIS challenges. Your employer's job description should specify the required field, not just the degree level.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Customer Insights Analysts?
Retail and e-commerce companies, consumer packaged goods firms, financial services, and large tech platforms are consistent H-1B filers for this role. These industries run ongoing customer research functions that require specialized analytical skills. Use Migrate Mate to search by employer and confirm LCA filing history for Customer Insights or closely related analyst titles before applying.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Customer Insights Analyst H-1B filings?
Your employer must certify through the DOL LCA process that your offered salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your metro area and experience level. The prevailing wage is tied to the specific SOC code and geography, so the same title can carry different wage floors in San Francisco versus Dallas. You can verify current wage levels using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I switch Customer Insights Analyst roles?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer once they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as you've maintained valid status. The new employer files a fresh LCA for your specific role and location. You don't need to re-enter the lottery if you already hold an approved H-1B.
What SOC code is typically used for Customer Insights Analyst H-1B filings?
Most employers file under Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists, SOC 13-1161. Some filings appear under Management Analysts (13-1111) or Operations Research Analysts (15-2031) depending on how the role is structured. You can review the O*NET profile for SOC 13-1161 to confirm that the job duties your employer will describe align with the standard occupational definition USCIS expects.
