Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Solutions Lead
Map your degree to your role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Solutions Lead position. A general business degree may trigger an RFE, so document how your technical coursework maps specifically to solution architecture, systems integration, or the consulting function your employer describes.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Solutions Lead roles often file under SOC codes for computer and information systems managers or management analysts. Run the OFLC Wage Search filtered by those codes to identify employers with active H-1B filings in your metro area before you apply.
Find sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate to target Solutions Lead openings at employers who have already sponsored the role. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying to companies with no sponsorship track record.
Clarify the specialty occupation definition early
Solutions Lead is a hybrid title that blends technical and client-facing work. Ask the hiring manager to confirm the role requires a degree in a specific technical discipline before the offer stage, since USCIS scrutinizes positions where non-degreed candidates are sometimes considered.
Time your petition around the cap and premium processing
H-1B cap filings open in April for an October 1 start. If you're already on OPT and need continuous work authorization, confirm whether your employer will file for premium processing to get a decision within 15 business days and avoid a gap.
Verify your employer's E-Verify enrollment before signing
If you're on a STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify for that authorization to remain valid. Confirm enrollment status before accepting an offer, since Solutions Lead roles at boutique consultancies are where this requirement is most frequently missed.
H-1B Visa Solutions Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Solutions Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. The challenge is that Solutions Lead is a broad title, and USCIS may issue an RFE if the job description includes non-technical duties that don't clearly require that degree. Your employer's petition should tie every core responsibility to the specific degree requirement.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B visas for Solutions Lead positions?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Solutions Lead openings filtered by verified H-1B filing history. You can also cross-reference DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data, which is publicly available and shows which employers filed LCAs for similar occupation codes in prior fiscal years. Focus on enterprise software vendors, systems integrators, and consulting firms, which file consistently for this type of role.
What SOC code typically applies to a Solutions Lead for H-1B purposes?
Most Solutions Lead roles are filed under SOC 11-3021 (Computer and Information Systems Managers) or SOC 15-1299 (Computer Occupations, All Other), depending on how technical the position is. Consulting-heavy roles sometimes use SOC 13-1161 (Market Research Analysts) or management analyst codes. The O*NET profile for the closest occupation code can help you and your employer align on the right classification before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B if I get a better Solutions Lead offer?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules established by AC21, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be approved, but the new petition must be non-frivolous. Get confirmation from your new employer that the transfer petition has been filed before your last day at the current job.
What should I watch for in the prevailing wage determination for a Solutions Lead role?
Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for the SOC code and geographic area listed on the LCA. Solutions Lead can map to multiple SOC codes with meaningfully different wage levels, so confirm which code your employer selected and verify it against the OFLC Wage Search before signing your offer letter. A lower-wage SOC code may technically comply with DOL rules but could affect your total compensation relative to peers in the same role.
