Match your resume to SOC codes
DOL assigns Build And Release Engineers to software developer SOC codes for wage-level purposes. Align your resume's skills section to those classifications so recruiters and HR teams recognize your role fits an existing LCA filing template.
Verify employer LCA history before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Build And Release Engineer roles by employers with active LCA filings. This narrows your search to companies that have already cleared DOL certification for this title, cutting out exploratory conversations about whether they sponsor.
Flag CI/CD platform certifications upfront
Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD certifications signal role-specific expertise that strengthens a specialty occupation argument in USCIS petitions. List them prominently so the employer's immigration counsel can document them in the I-129 support letter.
Ask about cap-exempt entity affiliations
Universities, nonprofits, and government research organizations are cap-exempt. If a tech company contracts its build engineering team through an affiliated research entity, your H-1B petition bypasses the annual lottery entirely, regardless of when you apply.
Confirm prevailing wage level before signing an offer
Your employer must certify your salary at the correct DOL wage level for your metro area. Cross-check the offered compensation against the OFLC Wage Search before you accept, because a mismatch forces an LCA amendment and can delay your start date.
Request premium processing for role-critical start dates
USCIS premium processing guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication decision. If your employer has a production release cycle or a critical infrastructure deadline tied to your start date, premium processing removes the uncertainty of standard five-to-six-month timelines.
H-1B Visa Build And Release Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Build And Release Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Build And Release Engineering requires theoretical and practical application of computer science and systems engineering, which meets USCIS's specialty occupation standard. The role typically maps to software developer or systems engineer SOC codes. Your employer's petition must document that the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, such as computer science, information systems, or electrical engineering.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Build And Release Engineers?
Enterprise software companies, cloud infrastructure providers, fintech firms, and defense contractors file LCAs for this title most frequently. Employers with large DevOps or platform engineering teams tend to have established immigration programs and approved LCA templates on file. You can browse Build And Release Engineer roles filtered by verified H-1B sponsorship history on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Build And Release Engineers?
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location before certifying the LCA. Build And Release Engineers often fall under software developer wage levels, which vary significantly by metro area. You can check the applicable wage level for your city using the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating any offer.
Can a Build And Release Engineer switch employers while on H-1B?
Yes, through H-1B portability. Once your initial petition has been approved and you've worked at least 180 days, you can start with a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, without waiting for approval. The new employer must file before your current status expires, and the role must remain a qualifying specialty occupation.
Does remote work affect H-1B sponsorship for Build And Release Engineers?
Yes. H-1B status is tied to specific worksites listed on the LCA. If your employer switches you to a remote arrangement in a different metro area, they must file an amended LCA reflecting the new work location and certify the prevailing wage for that area. Failing to amend is a compliance violation, so confirm your employer's remote-work LCA process before relocating.
