Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Director Of Security
Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Security director positions must require a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for your SOC code and confirm the education requirement is field-specific before applying to roles where the job posting accepts any degree.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Director of Security openings by employers who have previously filed LCAs in security management SOC codes. Prior filings signal an established H-1B sponsorship process, not a first-time hire navigating it.
Request prevailing wage documentation early
Your employer must certify wages at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your work location before filing. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check Level III or IV wages for security management roles in your metro area before negotiating your offer.
Address clearance requirements before filing
Some Director of Security roles require security clearances that restrict sponsorship for foreign nationals. Confirm with the hiring manager whether the position involves classified work or federal contracts before your employer invests in the LCA filing process.
Document your management scope precisely
USCIS scrutinizes security director petitions where duties overlap with non-specialty roles like security officer. Your support letter should detail budget authority, policy development responsibilities, and the specialized degree knowledge applied daily, not just headcount managed.

Find Director Of Security JobsDirector Of Security H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Security role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as security management, information security, criminal justice, or business administration with a security focus. USCIS will deny petitions where the employer accepts any degree or where the duties don't require specialized theoretical knowledge. The job description and support letter must make the degree-to-duty connection explicit.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Director of Security positions?
Financial services, technology, healthcare systems, and large retail enterprises file LCAs for security director roles with the most regularity. These industries maintain formal HR and legal teams familiar with the H-1B process. Government contractors sometimes sponsor but must verify the role doesn't require a security clearance that would disqualify H-1B holders. Browse verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate filtered by this role.
Can my employer file an H-1B petition for a Director of Security role that involves physical and cybersecurity oversight?
Yes, hybrid physical-cybersecurity roles can qualify if the position consistently applies a specialized body of knowledge from a specific field. The employer's attorney should document that both functions require the same degree discipline, or that the primary function drives the specialty occupation determination. Roles that are primarily administrative or supervisory without applied specialized knowledge face higher RFE rates from USCIS.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Director of Security H-1B sponsorship?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the Director of Security SOC code in your work location before the LCA can be certified. Senior director roles typically fall at wage level III or IV. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check current figures for your metro area. Employers who underpay relative to prevailing wage risk DOL audit and USCIS denial.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm promoted from a security manager to Director of Security?
A promotion that materially changes your job duties, title, or work location generally requires an amended H-1B petition filed with USCIS before the change takes effect. Your employer should file a new LCA reflecting the director-level wage and then submit Form I-129 with an amended petition. Working in the new role before the amendment is filed creates a status violation that can affect future extensions and green card filings.
