Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Product Director
Frame your portfolio around specialty occupation
USCIS evaluates whether your role requires a specific degree, not just any bachelor's. Document how your Product Director work ties directly to your field of study, strategy, computer science, or business, to preempt an RFE.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Nonprofits, universities, and government research entities are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition bypasses the lottery entirely. Product Director roles at these organizations are rare but exist, prioritize them if lottery selection is your biggest risk.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by Product Director roles at employers with confirmed LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. DOL disclosure data shows which companies have certified prevailing wages for this title, so you're targeting employers with a real sponsorship track record.
Request premium processing before your start date
Standard H-1B adjudication runs three to five months. If your offer has a firm start date, ask your employer to file with premium processing through USCIS, which guarantees a decision within 15 business days and reduces scheduling uncertainty.
Verify your offered wage against OFLC Wage Search
Before signing an offer, look up the prevailing wage for Product Director in your metro area using the OFLC Wage Search. The DOL requires your employer to pay at least the Level II or III wage, underpaid offers trigger LCA rejections.
Account for the 60-day grace period when switching roles
If you're moving from one H-1B employer to another, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after your last day of employment. Your new employer must file a transfer petition before that window closes, or your status lapses.

Find Product Director JobsProduct Director H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Director role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS requires that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Product Director roles tied to software, technology, or business strategy consistently meet this standard. Roles where the employer accepts any degree field or substitutes experience freely are harder to defend, the job description and internal requirements matter.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Product Directors?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history for Product Director and related titles, drawn from DOL disclosure data. This tells you which companies have actually certified prevailing wages for the role, not just claimed they sponsor. Filtering by location and filing frequency helps you prioritize outreach to employers with consistent track records.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm promoted from Senior Product Manager to Product Director?
A title change that involves a material change in duties, location, or compensation requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS. A promotion to Product Director typically qualifies as a material change. Your employer should file the amendment before or concurrent with the role change to keep your status current and compliant.
Can a Product Director role be structured to avoid the H-1B lottery?
Yes, through two main routes. If the employer is a nonprofit, university, or government research affiliate, it's cap-exempt and bypasses the lottery entirely. Alternatively, if you hold a U.S. master's degree, you're entered into the advanced degree pool first, which historically has a higher selection rate than the general cap pool.
What O*NET classification applies to Product Director roles, and why does it matter for H-1B?
O*NET classifies most Product Director roles under management or computer and information systems manager categories, both rated Job Zone 5, the highest tier, requiring extensive preparation and a bachelor's or graduate degree. USCIS cross-references O*NET data when evaluating specialty occupation claims, so roles that align with high-complexity O*NET profiles are easier to defend in an LCA or RFE response.
