Confirm your role meets specialty occupation
Ecommerce Specialist titles vary widely. Pull the O*NET profile for your specific duties and verify your employer's job description requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field before USCIS can approve the petition.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Ecommerce Specialist openings by verified LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already filed for this role type rather than employers new to H-1B sponsorship.
Request the LCA wage level in writing
Ask your recruiter which DOL wage level the employer intends to certify. Level I or II filings for Ecommerce roles sometimes trigger USCIS RFEs questioning whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation at that pay tier.
Benchmark your offer against OFLC Wage Search
Look up the prevailing wage for your job title, SOC code, and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before signing an offer. Employers must pay at least the certified LCA wage or your H-1B petition faces a compliance risk.
Build a degree-to-duties evidence file early
Ecommerce roles that blend marketing, analytics, and platform management can draw specialty occupation challenges. Gather your transcripts, course descriptions, and a letter from your employer tying each job duty to your specific degree field before the petition is filed.
Register before the April cap deadline
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in early March each year for an October 1 start date. Missing the registration window means waiting a full year, so confirm your employer has engaged legal counsel and completed USCIS registration before March closes.
H-1B Visa Ecommerce Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Ecommerce Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. USCIS requires the role to normally demand a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as marketing, business, or information systems. Generalist ecommerce titles that accept any degree or treat the requirement as preferred rather than required can draw a specialty occupation RFE. A detailed job description tied to your actual degree field strengthens the petition significantly.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Ecommerce Specialist roles?
Retailers, direct-to-consumer brands, marketplace platforms, and digital agencies with dedicated ecommerce functions file LCAs for this role type regularly. Migrate Mate lets you search Ecommerce Specialist openings filtered by verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have already navigated the filing process for this job title.
Can I switch from OPT to H-1B while working as an Ecommerce Specialist?
Yes. Your employer must file your H-1B petition during the cap registration window in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on STEM OPT, your authorization can extend beyond that transition point. The cap-gap rule protects your work authorization between your OPT expiration and October 1 if your petition is pending or approved.
What happens to my H-1B if I move from one ecommerce employer to another?
You can start working for the new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval, under H-1B portability rules. The new employer must file before your current status expires. Your job duties and wage level must still satisfy specialty occupation and DOL prevailing wage requirements at the new company.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect Ecommerce Specialist offers?
Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for your SOC code, job duties, and work location as certified on the LCA. The OFLC Wage Search lets you verify the applicable wage level before you receive a formal offer. Offers set below the certified wage expose both you and the employer to DOL compliance issues and can jeopardize your petition.
