Translate your leadership scope into specialty occupation language
USCIS scrutinizes team leader roles for degree-level theoretical application, not just supervision. Frame your resume around engineering judgment, technical decision-making, and system-level responsibilities rather than headcount or project management tasks.
Verify prevailing wage level before negotiating your offer
Run your SOC code and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before accepting any offer. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing level, and Level II or III wages apply to most senior individual contributor and team leader roles.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated entities can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap and lottery. Engineering Team Leader roles in R&D, applied research, or infrastructure at these organizations let you bypass the April registration window entirely.
Search Migrate Mate for employers with verified H-1B LCA filings
Filter by engineering occupation codes on Migrate Mate to find companies with active LCA certification history for team leader and senior engineering roles. This shows real filing intent, not just stated willingness to sponsor on a job posting.
Prepare a specialty occupation support package before interviews
Collect your degree transcripts, professional engineering credentials, and a written summary of how your role requires theoretical engineering application. Employers filing for senior technical roles increasingly attach this to the I-129 to pre-empt RFEs on specialty occupation classification.
Confirm your employer files before the April lottery registration window
H-1B cap-subject petitions require USCIS registration in March for an October 1 start date. If your offer letter arrives after March, your earliest cap-subject start date shifts to the following fiscal year unless your employer qualifies for cap-exempt filing.

Find Engineering Team Leader JobsEngineering Team Leader H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engineering Team Leader role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline as a minimum entry requirement. USCIS evaluates the role's actual duties, not the job title. Roles that blend supervision with hands-on engineering judgment typically qualify, but purely administrative team lead positions with no technical degree requirement can face RFEs.
How do I find Engineering Team Leader jobs at companies that sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate filters Engineering Team Leader roles by verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can see which employers have actually certified prevailing wage compliance for engineering positions rather than relying on unverified sponsorship claims in job descriptions. Searching by SOC code narrows results to employers with demonstrated filing activity in your specific engineering discipline.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Engineering Team Leader role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval, provided you've been maintaining valid H-1B status. The new employer must file a new LCA certified for the role's location and prevailing wage level before submitting the I-129 transfer petition to USCIS.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Engineering Team Leader position is restructured or eliminated?
You have a 60-day grace period after your last day of employment to find a new sponsoring employer, change to another visa status, or prepare to depart. If a new employer files an H-1B transfer petition within that window, you can begin working immediately upon filing. Don't wait until the grace period expires to act, since USCIS must receive the petition while you're still within status.
Does the O*NET classification for Engineering Team Leader affect H-1B eligibility?
O*NET occupation data informs how USCIS and DOL assess whether a role requires theoretical application of engineering knowledge at the degree level. The O*NET profile for team leader and first-line engineering supervisor roles describes the knowledge domains and education requirements adjudicators reference when evaluating specialty occupation status and prevailing wage level assignments.
