DESCRIPTION
Who are we?
Ready to build Amazon's next $100B business? We're not just entering shipping—we're transforming how billions of packages move around the globe. By evolving Amazon's legendary fulfillment engine into an agile, intelligent shipping network, we're creating a resilient system that continuously optimizes to deliver on time, every time, for every business and every customer. Every shipment is more than just a box—it spins the flywheel faster, continuously enhancing our logistics network through scale, speed, and intelligence. As we increase density and reach, we're revolutionizing shipping for ALL businesses while simultaneously strengthening Amazon's own delivery capabilities—reducing costs and accelerating deliveries across our entire ecosystem.
What will you do?
You will be the strategic technical leader for Amazon Shipping's largest enterprise customer engagements, owning the technical relationship end to end from pre-sales through delivery. You start at the first conversation, lead technical discovery, and define the target architecture for how the customer integrates with Amazon Shipping.
Enterprise customers run many systems: TMS, WMS, ERP, order management, and homegrown platforms, often with their own undefined priorities. You will align these on a single, well-defined integration architecture, resolve the hardest design questions, and stay hands-on to make sure what gets built is scalable, secure, and performant.
As a Principal, you operate at the strategic level. You advise the customer's senior and executive stakeholders, shape how they think about their broader integration strategy, and act as their trusted technical advisor through the lifecycle. You drive clarity where the business objective and the strategy are not yet defined. You turn each engagement into lasting capability: reference architectures, integration patterns, and governance that other architects and customers reuse without you in the room. You feed what you learn in the field back into Amazon Shipping's API roadmap and platform direction, and you represent Amazon Shipping as a technical thought leader in customer and industry forums.
You will collaborate closely with:
- Enterprise customers as the lead technical owner and strategic advisor, pre-sales to delivery
- Customer senior and executive stakeholders, aligning them on architecture and approach
- Commercial and Sales teams to shape and win strategic technical engagements
- Product and Engineering teams, feeding field insight into the API roadmap and platform
- The customer's system integrators and ISVs when an engagement requires it

You walk into ambiguity, draw out requirements, align stakeholders, and commit to an architecture you will stand behind and be measured on.

- Proven ownership of enterprise integrations across TMS, WMS, ERP, and OMS systems
- Strength in technical discovery: turning ambiguous, undefined problems into a clear architecture

- A record of building reusable mechanisms (reference architectures, governance) that scale past one deal
- Thought leadership through industry forums, publications, and developer communities
- Strategic thinking that connects technical decisions to customer business outcomes
- Customer obsession with a hands-on, get-it-done approach
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences and at C-level, including training, workshops, publications
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise-scale, technology-driven solutions in logistics, shipping, or supply chain technology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Document your architecture credentials precisely
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for senior technical roles. Gather certifications, published case studies, and project documentation that tie your degree field directly to solution design work before approaching employers.
Verify your SOC code before accepting offers
Principal Solution Architects can be classified under multiple SOC codes with different prevailing wage levels. Check the O*NET profile for your target job duties and confirm which code your employer plans to use on the LCA before signing.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Principal Solution Architect roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this title, so you're only engaging companies with a real track record of H-1B sponsorship for your level.
Push for premium processing in your offer negotiation
Standard H-1B adjudication can run four to six months, which creates risk if you're in a 60-day grace period after a layoff. Negotiate premium processing upfront so USCIS reaches a decision within 15 business days.
Confirm your employer's prevailing wage tier early
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your job title, worksite location, and SOC code before your offer letter is drafted. If the employer's offered salary falls below Level III or IV, the LCA will fail certification and the H-1B petition can't proceed.
Audit your employment history for specialty occupation gaps
If your past roles include general consulting or pre-sales work not tied to a technical degree field, USCIS may issue an RFE challenging specialty occupation. Build a paper trail linking each past role to degree-specific technical responsibilities before filing.
H-1B Visa Principal Solution Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Principal Solution Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Principal Solution Architect roles tied to cloud architecture, systems integration, or enterprise infrastructure typically satisfy this because the work requires applied knowledge from computer science, engineering, or information systems. Roles with broad pre-sales or generalist consulting duties can face RFEs if the degree connection isn't clearly documented.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for this role?
Enterprise software vendors, cloud platform companies, and large systems integrators file H-1B petitions for Principal Solution Architects at higher rates than other employer types. Professional services firms with federal or enterprise contracts also sponsor regularly. You can browse verified H-1B-sponsoring employers hiring for this role on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by employers with confirmed LCA filing history for this title.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Principal Solution Architect H-1B petitions?
The DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for the role's SOC code and worksite location, certified through an LCA before the H-1B petition is filed. Principal Solution Architects are typically classified at wage Level III or IV, which reflects senior or fully competent positions. If the employer's offered salary falls below the certified prevailing wage, DOL will reject the LCA and the H-1B petition can't move forward.
Can a Principal Solution Architect change employers while on H-1B status?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. Once USCIS has had your original petition pending for 180 days or more, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf. The new employer must file before your current authorized period ends. Portability lets you switch without waiting for the new petition to be approved, which matters when you're mid-project or facing a tight timeline.
What documentation should a Principal Solution Architect prepare to support an H-1B petition?
You'll need your academic credentials showing a degree in a relevant technical field, plus supporting evidence that ties your degree discipline to the specific duties of the role. Employers often request transcripts, credential evaluations if your degree is from outside the U.S., and detailed job descriptions that list degree requirements explicitly. If your title has evolved through promotions, a letter from a previous employer documenting the technical scope of prior roles can strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
