About the Role
The Supply Chain (SC) Data Strategy Consultant is Bristlecone's Data & AI. This role leads the SC Data Strategy offering end-to-end: conducting maturity assessments, building Data & AI architecture blueprints, and delivering executable roadmaps that position clients to adopt GenAI and Agentic AI across their SC operations. Beyond direct delivery, each engagement generates qualified pipeline for the broader offering portfolio while embedding Bristlecone as the client's trusted SC Data & AI partner.
- Lead SC Data Strategy engagements end-to-end — from stakeholder discovery and maturity assessment through SC Data & AI architecture blueprint, implementation roadmap, governance model, and delivery plan
- AI-first framing: Engage CXO audiences on SC data strategy for AI enablement, platform investment decisions, and implementation roadmap prioritization — framing every data investment in terms of the AI outcomes it unlocks
- AI use case identification: Identify and prioritize Classical AI, GenAI and Agentic AI use cases within each client's SC program — demand sensing copilots, autonomous supply exception management, AI-powered supplier onboarding, and intelligent SC reporting
- AI-ready architecture: Design Data & AI architecture blueprints that set the foundation for Agentic AI adoption — ensuring platform choices, data product designs, feature store architectures, and governance models are AI-ready from day one
- Build and continuously enrich Bristlecone's proprietary SC data maturity benchmark database from anonymized engagement outputs — the hard-to-replicate asset that differentiates Bristlecone from other firms
- GenAI in delivery: Leverage GenAI tooling actively in your own delivery workflow — AI-assisted maturity assessment synthesis, LLM-powered roadmap generation, and AI-augmented stakeholder interview analysis to compress delivery timelines
- Conduct SC regulatory applicability assessments across CSRD, EUDR, UFLPA, and CBAM as part of the governance model deliverable
- Contribute to offering IP development — refining the assessment methodology, benchmark scoring model, and deliverable templates based on engagement experience; building AI evaluation criteria into the SC data maturity framework
- Support GTM initiatives: contribute to proposals, present at C-suite client workshops, and represent Bristlecone at key industry events as needed
- Mentor and develop SC Data Architecture Consultants and Data Governance Consultants within the Strategy & Advisory cluster — specifically on AI-augmented delivery practices
What You'll Bring
- 8-12 years of experience in supply chain, SC analytics, or SC data — with a track record spanning both strategy and execution, not advisory alone
- Prior seniority as an SC data strategist, or SC consulting manager at a Global 2000 company or consultancy
- SC platform landscape: Deep knowledge of SAP IBP/APO, Kinaxis RapidResponse, Blue Yonder, Oracle SCM Cloud — and critically, how data from each platform feeds downstream AI/ML use cases and Agentic AI workflows
- AI & data architecture: Working knowledge of cloud data and AI platform stacks: Databricks (Unity Catalog, MLflow, AI Functions), Snowflake (Cortex AI), Microsoft Fabric (Azure OpenAI integration), GCP (Vertex AI, BigQuery ML) — able to recommend the right AI-ready data stack for each client's SC context
- GenAI fluency: Practical understanding of large language models, prompt engineering, AI agents, and Agentic AI frameworks — able to have a substantive conversation with a CDO about what GenAI can and cannot reliably do in an SC context today
- Experience designing SC data governance frameworks, Data & AI implementation roadmaps, and AI readiness assessments that practitioners adopt
- Strong executive facilitation and communication skills — able to frame Data & AI investment decisions in language that resonates with CXOs
- Create thought leadership on SC AI, SC data strategy, or Agentic AI in supply chain
Bonus If You Have
- Hands-on GenAI / Agentic AI: Experience implementing GenAI or Agentic AI in SC contexts — demand sensing copilots, autonomous exception management agents, AI-powered supplier onboarding, or LLM-based SC reporting assistants
- Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks: LangChain, LangGraph, Microsoft AutoGen, CrewAI, or equivalent — applied to real SC automation workflows
- Track record of building AI-ready data foundations: feature stores, vector databases, semantic data layers, or SC-specific AI model registries
- SC regulatory depth: CSRD Scope 3 methodology, EUDR due diligence workflows, UFLPA audit requirements, or CBAM embedded carbon data obligations
- Published thought leadership on SC AI, SC data strategy, or Agentic AI in supply chain

Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires your degree to align directly with the specialty occupation. A strategy consulting role typically maps to business administration, economics, or management. A degree in an unrelated field increases your RFE risk significantly.
Check LCA filings before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm a firm has filed Labor Condition Applications for Strategy Consultant or Management Analyst roles. Employers without recent LCA history for this occupation may lack the internal process to sponsor you.
Search verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by occupation and filing history on Migrate Mate to identify employers with active H-1B sponsorship patterns for consulting roles. This surfaces firms that sponsor consistently, not just those with a one-time filing on record.
Negotiate petition timing before accepting an offer
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed for the October 1 start date, so an offer in January differs from one in July. Confirm your start date aligns with your employer's filing window before signing.
Understand how project-based work affects your petition
Strategy consulting roles often involve client deployments across multiple sites. USCIS scrutinizes third-party placement arrangements, so your employer should document that they control your day-to-day work in the I-129 petition.
Use O*NET to support your specialty occupation case
The O*NET profile for Management Analysts (SOC 13-1111) lists education and skill requirements that directly support an H-1B specialty occupation argument. Your employer's attorney can cite this profile in the petition to preempt RFEs.
H-1B Visa Strategy Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Strategy Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the employer can demonstrate the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, economics, finance, or management. Generic job postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required can weaken the case. Your employer should document the theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge in the role description submitted with the I-129.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Consultants?
Large management consulting firms, financial institutions, and technology companies with dedicated strategy functions are the most consistent sponsors. Boutique consulting firms sponsor less frequently because they may lack in-house immigration infrastructure. To find employers with verified H-1B filing histories for consulting roles, browse by occupation on Migrate Mate, which surfaces LCA data by job title and employer.
How does client-site deployment affect my H-1B status as a consultant?
If your employer places you at client sites for extended periods, USCIS may scrutinize whether your employer genuinely controls your work. The employer must maintain the right to supervise, assign tasks, and terminate your engagement. If your firm places you at a third-party client location for the duration of a project, the petition should include itinerary documentation and employer control evidence to reduce the risk of an RFE or denial.
Can I switch consulting employers while on H-1B status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules established by AC21, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf, as long as your current petition has been approved and you've maintained valid status. You don't need to wait for the transfer to be approved before your start date, which matters in fast-moving consulting offer timelines.
What happens to my H-1B if my consulting project ends and I'm between engagements?
Your H-1B status is tied to your employer, not to a specific client project. If you remain on payroll between engagements, your status is maintained. However, if your employer terminates you, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsor, file a change of status, or depart the U.S. Document your bench periods carefully and keep pay stubs as evidence of continuous employment if USCIS ever requests proof.
