Match your degree to the SOC code
Plant Manager positions file under SOC 11-1021. Pull the O*NET profile for that code and confirm your degree field aligns directly. A mismatch between your transcript and the SOC description is a common RFE trigger.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Run your target metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before any salary discussion. Plant Manager wages vary significantly by region and shift between Level I and Level III, which affects what the employer must certify on the LCA.
Search H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Plant Manager roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history. This removes manufacturers who list the title but have never actually sponsored the role through the H-1B process.
Ask about multi-site operations before accepting
If the employer runs multiple facilities, confirm which plant address goes on the LCA. USCIS requires a certified LCA for each worksite location, and moving between plants mid-petition can trigger an amended filing requirement.
Time your petition around plant shutdown cycles
Many manufacturing employers plan budgets and headcount annually around Q4 or fiscal year-end. Submit your H-1B interest at least four months before the April 1 cap-subject filing window so the employer can complete the LCA certification in time.

Find Plant Manager JobsPlant Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Plant Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or operations management. Generalist management degrees can create issues if the job description doesn't clearly tie the duties to a specific academic discipline. USCIS looks at whether the degree requirement is standard for the position in the industry, not just at your employer.
How do I find Plant Manager jobs where employers actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate to find Plant Manager openings filtered by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. Many manufacturers post roles without intending to sponsor, so filtering by verified DOL filing activity saves significant time. Targeting companies with prior Plant Manager LCA filings in your region gives you the strongest starting point.
Can I switch from one manufacturing employer to another on H-1B as a Plant Manager?
Yes, under H-1B portability you can start working for a new employer once the transfer petition is filed, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new LCA for the specific plant location before submitting the I-129. Don't wait for approval before starting, but confirm the petition receipt is in hand.
What happens if my Plant Manager position moves to a different facility after my H-1B is approved?
A permanent relocation to a new worksite typically requires an amended H-1B petition with a new LCA certified for that location. Short-term or temporary assignments under DOL rules may not require amendment, but USCIS applies a facts-and-circumstances test. Confirm the transfer duration and distance with your employer's immigration counsel before relocating to avoid a status compliance issue.
Does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Plant Manager hiring decisions?
It does in practice. Employers must certify on the LCA that they'll pay at least the prevailing wage for the SOC code and location, which USCIS verifies. In lower-wage regions, the DOL prevailing wage can exceed what the employer typically pays for the role, which sometimes causes employers to reconsider sponsorship. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check prevailing wage levels in your target metro before entering salary negotiations.
