Align your resume with SOC codes
Your H-1B petition requires a Standard Occupational Classification code that matches your role. Check O*NET for the Recruiting Coordinator classification and mirror that language in your resume so your employer's LCA filing aligns cleanly with your documented experience.
Target employers with dedicated HR teams
Companies that process high volumes of internal hires typically have in-house immigration counsel and established LCA workflows. Those employers can sponsor you without outsourcing every filing step, which shortens your timeline and reduces the risk of errors in your petition.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must file an LCA certifying your offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level. Run your title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer discussion so you know the floor and can negotiate above it.
Search Migrate Mate for H-1B filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Recruiting Coordinator openings by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. That history confirms the employer has run this process before and isn't encountering sponsorship for the first time with your petition.
Confirm specialty occupation status early
USCIS scrutinizes Recruiting Coordinator roles because the position doesn't always require a specific bachelor's degree field. Ask your prospective employer how they've documented specialty occupation for similar hires and whether they've received RFEs on coordinator-level petitions before accepting an offer.
Start your premium processing conversation at offer stage
If your current OPT or grace period is running short, ask during offer negotiations whether the employer will file with premium processing. USCIS adjudicates premium petitions within 15 business days, which matters when your authorization window is tight.
H-1B Visa Recruiting Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Recruiting Coordinator role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It can, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS defines specialty occupation as a role that normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific related field. Recruiting Coordinator positions supported by a degree in human resources, business administration, or organizational psychology are the strongest cases. Generic coordinator titles with no clear degree requirement are more likely to receive an RFE, so the employer's job description framing matters significantly.
Which employers typically sponsor H-1B visas for Recruiting Coordinator roles?
Technology companies, staffing firms, and large enterprises with internal talent acquisition teams sponsor Recruiting Coordinator roles most consistently. These employers already run high-volume H-1B programs for their engineering and product hires, so adding a coordinator to that pipeline is operationally familiar. You can search Migrate Mate to find openings filtered by employers with documented H-1B LCA filing history in HR and recruiting classifications.
Can my employer count my Recruiting Coordinator work experience toward the H-1B specialty occupation requirement?
Work experience can substitute for a formal degree under USCIS rules, with three years of specialized experience equating to one year of education. For a Recruiting Coordinator petition, that experience needs to be specific to HR operations or talent acquisition, not general administrative work. Your employer will need to document the equivalency through an evaluation, typically from a credentials assessment organization, before filing.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer does a layoff or restructuring?
You have a 60-day grace period after an involuntary termination to find a new sponsoring employer, change to another visa status, or depart the U.S. During that window, your new employer can file an H-1B transfer petition that allows you to start work as soon as USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval. Recruiting Coordinator roles at larger employers with active immigration programs are the fastest path to maintaining status continuity.
Does a Recruiting Coordinator role at a staffing or consulting firm create any H-1B complications?
Staffing firms can sponsor H-1B visas, but if your Recruiting Coordinator work involves supporting H-1B placements for the firm's clients, USCIS may scrutinize whether the employer-employee relationship meets its control requirements. Roles where the petitioning firm directly supervises your day-to-day work and retains authority over your assignments are on stronger footing. Ask prospective employers how they've structured similar petitions before accepting an offer.
