Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Supply Chain Lead and confirm your job duties align with the listed knowledge requirements. A role that accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field can fail USCIS's specialty occupation test at adjudication.
Document your degree equivalency early
If your supply chain or engineering degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation before you start interviewing. USCIS accepts three years of relevant work experience as a substitute for each year of missing formal education.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Supply Chain Lead roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this title, so you're spending your time on companies that have already cleared the DOL step for this exact occupation.
Ask about cap-exempt status before accepting
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government-affiliated entities are cap-exempt, meaning your petition bypasses the lottery. Supply chain roles at hospital systems or research institutions can qualify, so confirm the employer's cap status during final-round interviews.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier in your offer
Look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your specific SOC code and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the certified LCA wage or USCIS will deny the petition.
File premium processing if your OPT end date is tight
USCIS offers premium processing on Form I-129 that guarantees a decision within 15 business days. If your OPT expires within a few months of the H-1B cap filing window, premium processing is the practical way to avoid a status gap.
H-1B Visa Supply Chain Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Supply Chain Lead role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as supply chain management, industrial engineering, logistics, or operations management. The job description and internal employer requirements need to reflect that a specific degree is mandatory, not merely preferred. Roles where any bachelor's degree qualifies are more vulnerable to specialty occupation challenges during USCIS adjudication.
How do I find employers that actively sponsor H-1B visas for supply chain roles?
Migrate Mate lets you search Supply Chain Lead positions filtered by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. This saves time by surfacing companies that have already gone through the DOL certification process for this job title rather than relying on guesswork or employer claims during interviews.
Can I use my OPT STEM extension while waiting for an H-1B cap decision?
Yes, if your employer is enrolled in E-Verify and your role falls under a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code. Supply chain and operations roles tied to engineering or computer science degrees often qualify. Your STEM OPT extension can bridge the gap between your initial OPT end date and your H-1B start date of October 1 if your petition is selected in the lottery.
What happens to my H-1B petition if my employer changes the Supply Chain Lead role after filing?
Material changes to the job duties, work location, or salary after USCIS approves the petition can require your employer to file an amended H-1B petition. Moving to a worksite in a different metropolitan statistical area triggers a new LCA with DOL. Minor duty adjustments within the same occupational category generally don't require an amendment, but your employer's immigration counsel should confirm.
Does Supply Chain Lead experience outside the U.S. count toward H-1B eligibility?
Yes. USCIS accepts foreign work experience as evidence of specialty occupation qualifications, and under the three-for-one equivalency rule, three years of progressive supply chain experience can substitute for one year of a U.S. bachelor's degree. International experience managing vendors, logistics networks, or procurement teams is directly relevant and should be documented in support letters from former employers.
