Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Product Operations Specialist
Frame your degree for specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the role. A business operations or industrial engineering degree maps cleanly. If yours is adjacent, document coursework in process design, analytics, or systems thinking before your employer files.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search the OFLC Wage Search for Labor Condition Applications filed under SOC code 11-1021 or 15-2051 to identify companies that have actively sponsored product operations roles. Past filings signal a repeatable sponsorship process, not a one-off exception.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsors
Filter your search on Migrate Mate by role and visa type to surface employers whose DOL LCA filings confirm H-1B sponsorship for product operations work, saving you from applying to companies that won't file.
Clarify SOC code assignment before the LCA
Product operations roles get mapped to different SOC codes depending on whether the work is classified as management, analysis, or technical. Ask your employer's immigration counsel which code they plan to file under, since it directly determines the prevailing wage level.
Request premium processing if your start date is fixed
Product team launch cycles and OKR planning windows mean employers often need you by a specific quarter. Premium processing cuts USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. Raise this with your recruiter during offer negotiation, not after you've signed.
Document cross-functional scope to survive an RFE
USCIS occasionally issues Requests for Evidence on product operations roles, arguing the position doesn't require a specialized degree. Counter this proactively by ensuring your offer letter specifies analytical tools, systems ownership, and degree requirements in the job description.

Find Product Operations Specialist JobsProduct Operations Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Operations Specialist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the role genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business, operations management, information systems, or industrial engineering. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are more vulnerable to USCIS scrutiny. Your employer's job description should specify the required discipline, and your degree should align directly with the work you'll perform.
How do I find employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas for product operations roles?
Search Migrate Mate to find Product Operations Specialist positions at employers with verified H-1B filing history. You can also cross-reference the DOL's LCA disclosure data using the OFLC Wage Search to confirm whether a specific company has filed Labor Condition Applications for similar roles before. Companies with repeat filings have an established sponsorship process, which reduces delays on your end.
Which SOC code applies to Product Operations Specialist roles for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how your employer defines the role. Positions focused on analysis and metrics often fall under SOC 15-2051 (Data Scientists) or 13-1111 (Management Analysts). Strategy-heavy roles may map to 11-1021 (General and Operations Managers). The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level USCIS requires your employer to certify, so confirm the intended classification with your employer before the LCA is filed.
What happens to my H-1B status if my product operations role changes significantly after I'm sponsored?
Material changes to your job duties, title, or work location generally require your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before the change takes effect. A shift from operational execution to people management, or a move to a different office, typically triggers an amendment. Starting a materially different role without filing first puts your status at risk.
Can I switch employers while on H-1B in a product operations role?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf, without waiting for USCIS approval, provided you've been in valid H-1B status and the petition is non-frivolous. The new employer must file their own LCA and petition covering your product operations role before your first day with them.
