H-1B Visa Shift Supervisor Jobs
Shift Supervisor roles can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as operations management, industrial engineering, or business administration. Employers in manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare file LCAs with DOL before sponsoring, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April registration window matters.

Verify your degree matches the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Shift Supervisor duties. An operations management or industrial engineering degree strengthens your case; a general business degree may trigger an RFE if the employer can't document why that specific field is required.
Use O*NET to document specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Shift Supervisor before interviews. It lists the knowledge domains and typical education requirements employers cite in LCA filings, giving you language to confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards.
Target industries with consistent LCA filing history
Manufacturing, food processing, and healthcare operations employers file H-1B LCAs regularly for supervisory roles. Search Migrate Mate to filter Shift Supervisor openings by employers with verified DOL filing activity, so you're not cold-applying to companies with no sponsorship track record.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation. Your employer's LCA must certify at least the Level I prevailing wage, and knowing the tiers in advance helps you identify if an offer is structured to meet that floor.
Ask about cap-exempt status during screening
Some Shift Supervisor roles at nonprofit research organizations or government-affiliated facilities qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filings, bypassing the lottery entirely. Confirm whether your target employer holds cap-exempt status before the April registration window closes.
Align your start date with the October 1 effective date
H-1B cap-subject approvals take effect October 1 of the fiscal year filed. If you're currently on OPT, confirm your EAD expiration covers the gap and that your employer is prepared to file premium processing if your OPT runs short before that date.

Find Shift Supervisor JobsShift Supervisor H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Shift Supervisor role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the job requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as operations management, industrial engineering, or supply chain management, it can qualify. Generalist supervisory roles where any degree suffices are harder to sponsor because USCIS looks for a direct relationship between the degree field and the job duties.
Which industries most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Shift Supervisor positions?
Manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, food processing, and hospital operations are the industries that most consistently file LCAs for Shift Supervisor roles. These sectors often require technical degree holders to manage complex production environments, which supports the specialty occupation argument. You can find employers with active filing history in these fields on Migrate Mate.
Can my employer file my H-1B petition if I'm currently on OPT working as a Shift Supervisor?
Yes. Your employer can submit an H-1B registration during the April cap-subject window while you're on OPT. If selected in the lottery, they file the full I-129 petition for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization automatically, provided the petition is filed before your EAD expires.
What does the employer need to do before sponsoring an H-1B for a Shift Supervisor?
Before filing the I-129, your employer must obtain a certified LCA from DOL. The LCA requires them to document the wage level, confirm it meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for the occupation and location, and post a public notice at the worksite. The entire LCA certification process typically takes seven business days when filed through the FLAG system.
Will USCIS issue an RFE for a Shift Supervisor H-1B petition?
RFEs are more common for Shift Supervisor petitions than for roles like software engineer or financial analyst because the specialty occupation requirement is less self-evident. The strongest petitions include detailed documentation of why the specific degree field is required, not just preferred, and connect the educational requirements directly to the technical complexity of the supervisory duties involved.
