H-1B Visa Prosthetist Jobs
Prosthetist roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in prosthetics, orthotics, or a related clinical field. Many sponsors are hospital systems, rehabilitation networks, and O&P practices that file LCAs through DOL before petitioning USCIS. Certification from ABC or BOC strengthens your petition.

Verify your ABC or BOC certification status
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation partly through professional licensure. Confirm your American Board for Certification or Board of Certification credentials are current before any employer files your I-129, since lapses can trigger an RFE.
Search LCA filings for O&P employers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find which orthotics and prosthetics practices have filed Labor Condition Applications under SOC code 29-2091. Employers with recent LCA history are already set up to sponsor H-1B workers in your role.
Target hospital systems over small O&P clinics
Large hospital networks and rehabilitation systems have dedicated HR and immigration counsel, making them faster at filing I-129 petitions. Smaller independent O&P practices often lack the infrastructure to sponsor H-1B workers for the first time.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Search Migrate Mate's database filtered to Prosthetist roles to see employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts out practices that post jobs but have never sponsored a visa, saving you weeks of back-and-forth with unqualified employers.
Negotiate the prevailing wage level in your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the Level I through Level IV wage tiers under SOC 29-2091 before accepting an offer, so you can spot if you're being slotted below your actual experience.
Ask about cap-exempt filing before April registration
Some prosthetist roles at nonprofit hospitals or university-affiliated rehab centers qualify for cap-exempt H-1B status, bypassing the annual lottery entirely. Confirm with the employer whether their entity qualifies under USCIS cap-exempt criteria before the March registration window opens.

Find Prosthetist JobsProsthetist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Prosthetist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Prosthetist positions qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in prosthetics, orthotics, or a directly related clinical field. USCIS looks at both the degree requirement and professional licensure. ABC or BOC certification reinforces the specialty occupation argument in your petition, particularly if the employer has not sponsored a prosthetist before.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Prosthetists?
Hospital systems, inpatient rehabilitation centers, VA facilities, and larger O&P networks are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Prosthetist roles because they have immigration counsel on staff. Smaller independent clinics can sponsor but often need more lead time. You can find employers with verified LCA filing history for this role on Migrate Mate, filtered specifically to prosthetist and orthotist positions.
How does state licensure affect my H-1B petition as a Prosthetist?
State licensure requirements vary, and USCIS may request evidence that you hold or are eligible for a license in the state where you'll practice. Some states require ABC or BOC certification as a condition of licensure. If your license is pending at filing, include documentation showing you've applied and meet all eligibility requirements, which helps address any USCIS concern about your ability to legally practice.
Can a Prosthetist job at a VA hospital or nonprofit rehab center skip the H-1B lottery?
Possibly. VA facilities and certain nonprofit or university-affiliated rehabilitation centers may qualify as cap-exempt employers under USCIS rules, meaning your employer can file an H-1B petition at any time without entering the annual April lottery. You'd need to confirm the specific facility's tax status and USCIS eligibility, but this is a meaningful advantage worth verifying before you apply.
What prevailing wage level should a Prosthetist expect on an H-1B LCA?
The DOL assigns prevailing wages under SOC code 29-2091 at four experience levels, and your employer must pay at least the level that matches your role's duties and your credentials. Check the OFLC Wage Search for your specific city or metropolitan area, since wages for Prosthetists vary substantially between rural markets and major metro health systems. Accepting a wage below your level is a compliance risk for both you and your employer.
