Match your degree to the role
H-1B approval depends on a direct connection between your degree field and the Quality Supervisor position. A degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or quality management typically satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. Unrelated degrees trigger RFEs even with years of experience.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Search DOL's OFLC Wage Search to verify an employer has filed Labor Condition Applications for Quality Supervisor or similar titles. Past LCA filings signal a functioning H-1B process, not just a stated willingness to sponsor.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
STEM OPT employers must use E-Verify, but for Quality Supervisor roles, E-Verify enrollment also signals compliance infrastructure. Aerospace, defense, and medical device manufacturers are often federal contractors with mandatory E-Verify use, making them more practiced H-1B filers.
Negotiate the offer before the LCA filing deadline
Your employer must file the LCA with DOL before submitting your I-129 to USCIS. Lock in your job title and work location before this step. Title changes after LCA certification can require refiling, which delays your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified H-1B sponsors
Search Quality Supervisor roles on Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-1B filing history pulled from DOL LCA disclosure data. This surfaces companies that have sponsored the role before, not just those that say they're open to it.
Prepare ISO or ASQ credentials before your interview
Employers filing H-1B petitions for Quality Supervisors often need to document that the role genuinely requires a degree. ASQ certifications like CQE or CQM and ISO 9001 lead auditor credentials strengthen both your candidacy and the employer's specialty occupation argument to USCIS.
H-1B Visa Quality Supervisor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Quality Supervisor role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires the role to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Quality Supervisor roles tied to regulated industries like aerospace, medical devices, or pharmaceuticals typically qualify because the work involves applying engineering or scientific principles. General manufacturing supervisory roles without a technical degree requirement may not qualify and are more likely to receive an RFE.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Quality Supervisor positions?
Aerospace and defense, medical device manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, automotive, and semiconductor fabrication are the most active H-1B sponsors for Quality Supervisor roles. These industries operate under strict regulatory frameworks such as FDA, FAA, or IATF 16949 standards, which require degree-level expertise and make the specialty occupation argument to USCIS easier to support. You can browse employers with verified LCA filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
Can my employer file an H-1B for a Quality Supervisor role if I'm currently on OPT?
Yes. Your employer files your H-1B registration in March, and if selected, submits the I-129 petition for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have STEM OPT eligibility, you can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension to bridge the gap. Your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to support the STEM OPT extension, which is common among regulated manufacturers.
What prevailing wage level applies to Quality Supervisor H-1B petitions?
Most Quality Supervisor H-1B petitions are filed at DOL wage Level II or Level III, depending on the scope of supervisory responsibility and the complexity of the quality system involved. Your employer determines the wage level through the OFLC Wage Search using your SOC code and work location. Level I filings for supervisory roles draw USCIS scrutiny, so confirm your employer is using an appropriate wage level before the LCA is certified.
What happens if my Quality Supervisor job title changes after the H-1B is approved?
A material change in job duties or title requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before the change takes effect. A promotion to Quality Manager or a shift in site location both typically trigger an amendment. Working under a materially different title without an amended petition puts your status at risk, so flag any proposed changes to HR before accepting them.
