Frame your credentials around specialty occupation
Supply chain management must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard. Gather degree transcripts and any professional certifications like APICS CSCP or CLTD that tie your academic background directly to the director-level role you're targeting.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Applications by SOC code 11-3071 (Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers). This shows which employers have recently certified positions, giving you a verified list of active H-1B sponsors.
Target manufacturers and large retailers first
Companies with complex, multi-tier supply chains, particularly in automotive, consumer electronics, and e-commerce fulfillment, file H-1B petitions for supply chain leadership most consistently. Migrate Mate surfaces these employers filtered by verified LCA filing history for this occupation.
Negotiate offer timing around the lottery window
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If an employer extends an offer after April, your earliest possible H-1B start is the following October. Build this into your negotiations and onboarding timeline discussions.
Confirm the employer files as a cap-subject petitioner
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated entities are cap-exempt and can file H-1B petitions year-round. Most supply chain director roles sit outside these employers, so verify the employer's cap status before factoring processing timelines into your offer decision.
Request premium processing when timelines are tight
USCIS offers premium processing for H-1B petitions, which guarantees a decision within 15 business days. If your start date or current status expiration is close to October 1, ask the employer to include it in the filing to avoid gaps in work authorization.
H-1B Visa Supply Chain Director: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Supply Chain Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as supply chain management, logistics, industrial engineering, or operations management. USCIS evaluates the job duties, not just the title. Employers strengthen the petition by showing the role involves complex vendor negotiations, multi-region inventory strategy, or systems integration that inherently requires degree-level expertise.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Supply Chain Director positions?
Employers in manufacturing, consumer goods, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and technology hardware sponsor H-1B petitions for supply chain leadership most frequently. You can verify which companies have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation code using the OFLC Wage Search, or search Migrate Mate for Supply Chain Director roles filtered by employers with active H-1B filing history.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change Supply Chain Director roles?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, without waiting for approval, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you haven't fallen out of status. The new employer must file a fresh I-129 petition covering the specific director-level duties of the new role.
How does prevailing wage affect H-1B sponsorship for this role?
The employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for a Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Manager in the work location, as determined by DOL. The wage level depends on your experience and the complexity of the role. Employers set this through a Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL before submitting the H-1B petition to USCIS. You can look up applicable wage levels using the OFLC Wage Search.
Does my supply chain certification count toward the specialty occupation requirement?
Certifications like APICS CSCP, CLTD, or Six Sigma Black Belt strengthen the petition but don't substitute for a qualifying bachelor's degree. USCIS primarily evaluates whether the role requires a specific academic discipline. If your degree is in a different field, a credentials evaluation showing equivalency, or a combination of education and progressive experience, may support the petition depending on how the employer documents the position.
