Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility requires your role to be a specialty occupation. Pull the O*NET profile for Inventory Control Clerk to confirm the typical education level listed, then cross-reference your degree field against the job description before applying.
Search LCA filings on Migrate Mate for sponsoring employers
Not all inventory roles are posted with sponsorship flagged. Use Migrate Mate to search DOL Labor Condition Application data by occupation code, so you can identify which employers have actively filed for roles matching yours.
Request the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your work location and job level. Look up the wage using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you know whether a proposed salary meets the minimum threshold.
Clarify whether the role is cap-subject before accepting
Universities, nonprofits, and government research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning no lottery wait. If you're on OPT and running short on time, prioritizing cap-exempt logistics or procurement roles at qualifying organizations can let you start without waiting for October 1.
Account for LCA posting requirements during onboarding
Before USCIS adjudicates your H-1B petition, your employer must post the certified LCA at your physical work location for ten consecutive business days. If you'll work at a client site or warehouse, confirm your employer knows the posting obligation applies there too.
H-1B Visa Inventory Control Clerk: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Inventory Control Clerk role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the job description requires a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, or a directly related field, it can qualify. Roles framed around general clerical or warehouse duties without a degree requirement typically don't meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B visas for inventory or logistics roles?
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing data by occupation code, so you can see which employers have filed LCAs for inventory control or supply chain positions. That filing history is a reliable signal of sponsorship willingness, more so than a job posting that mentions sponsorship vaguely or not at all.
What wage level should I expect an employer to certify on the LCA?
The DOL assigns prevailing wages at four levels based on experience and complexity. Inventory Control Clerk roles are most commonly certified at Level I or Level II. You can look up the current wage for your specific location using the OFLC Wage Search, which pulls from Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational wage data.
Can I work at a client warehouse or offsite distribution center on an H-1B?
Yes, but your employer must file a new LCA or an amended petition if your work location changes to a new metropolitan statistical area. The LCA is tied to a specific worksite, and the prevailing wage requirement applies to wherever you physically perform work. Notify your employer before any permanent site change.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer loses the sponsoring contract or restructures?
If your employer terminates your H-1B before the petition end date, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the country. A new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before that window closes. USCIS allows you to start work for the new employer once the transfer petition is received.
