Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Material Handler positions vary widely. Check the O*NET profile for your specific SOC code to confirm the role requires a relevant bachelor's degree, since generalist warehouse roles often don't meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard.
Research prevailing wage before negotiating
Run your job title, work location, and experience level through the OFLC Wage Search before accepting any offer. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the applicable prevailing wage, and a low offer can trigger USCIS scrutiny.
Target employers with active E-Verify enrollment
Employers who sponsor H-1B workers must be E-Verify participants. Prioritize logistics companies and manufacturers already enrolled, since non-enrolled employers face additional compliance steps that can delay or derail your petition.
Find H-1B-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Material Handler roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history using Migrate Mate. This surfaces companies that have actually sponsored the visa for this job category, not just those that list sponsorship as a possibility.
Document your degree's field alignment clearly
If your bachelor's is in industrial engineering, operations management, or supply chain, make sure your offer letter and employer support letter explicitly connect those credentials to the Material Handler duties. Vague degree-to-job links are a common RFE trigger.

Find Material Handler JobsMaterial Handler H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Material Handler role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. A Material Handler role that requires a specific bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or industrial engineering can qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Roles where any degree or no degree is acceptable typically don't qualify. Your employer's job description must clearly tie the duties to a specific degree field.
How do I find Material Handler employers who have actually sponsored H-1B visas before?
Migrate Mate lets you browse Material Handler roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history from DOL disclosure data. This is more reliable than relying on a job posting that says 'willing to sponsor,' since it shows which companies have completed the process for comparable roles.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Material Handler employer downsizes or eliminates my role?
If your employer terminates your H-1B employment, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change to another valid status, or depart the U.S. During that window, you can't work. A new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your grace period expires for you to resume employment lawfully.
Does the H-1B cap apply to Material Handler roles at all employers?
Most private-sector employers are subject to the 85,000-slot annual H-1B cap and the lottery. However, if you're hired by a university, nonprofit research organization, or government research institution, those positions are cap-exempt, meaning your employer can file at any time without waiting for the annual registration period.
What prevailing wage level should a Material Handler H-1B petition list?
Prevailing wage for H-1B Material Handler petitions is determined by the specific SOC code, work location, and experience level the employer certifies on the LCA. You can check applicable wage tiers using the OFLC Wage Search before your employer files. The LCA must list a wage at or above the DOL-determined prevailing rate for that location and level.
