Verify your degree aligns with specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to airport operations management. An aviation management, transportation logistics, or business administration degree works. A general humanities degree without relevant coursework can trigger an RFE at petition stage.
Target airport authorities over private contractors
Public airport authorities and commercial carriers file LCAs more consistently than small ground handling contractors. Search DOL OFLC disclosure data filtered by SOC code 11-3071 to identify which employers have certified LCAs for Airport Manager roles in the past two years.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Airport Manager wages vary significantly by airport size and geography. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 11-3071 in your target metro before accepting an offer so you know whether the proposed salary meets the DOL prevailing wage threshold your employer must certify.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers
Most job listings don't disclose H-1B sponsorship history upfront. Search Airport Manager roles on Migrate Mate to see employers filtered by LCA filing history, so you're applying only to companies that have sponsored the role before.
Ask employers about cap-exempt status during interviews
Airport authorities that contract with universities, research institutions, or nonprofit affiliates may qualify as cap-exempt, letting you bypass the H-1B lottery entirely. Ask your recruiter directly whether the hiring entity has any cap-exempt institutional affiliations before the offer stage.
File for premium processing if your start date is firm
Aviation operations roles often have rigid start dates tied to contract cycles or seasonal schedules. Request that your employer file Form I-907 for premium processing so USCIS adjudicates the petition within 15 business days rather than several months.

Find Airport Manager JobsAirport Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Airport Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as aviation management, transportation logistics, or business administration. USCIS evaluates the job description closely, so your employer's LCA and I-129 petition need to document that the degree requirement is a standard industry norm for the specific role, not just a preference.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Airport Manager positions?
Commercial airport authorities, regional airlines, major ground handling companies, and aviation services contractors are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. You can find employers with verified LCA filing history for Airport Manager positions on Migrate Mate, which filters openings by actual DOL sponsorship records rather than self-reported job posting claims.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Airport Manager job offers?
Your employer must certify through a DOL LCA that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for the SOC code 11-3071 in the specific geographic area where you'll work. Airport hubs in high-cost metros typically require higher certified wages than regional airports. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level before evaluating any offer.
Can I change Airport Manager employers on an H-1B without losing status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules established by AC21, you can start working for a new employer once they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days. The new employer files a new I-129 and LCA for the specific airport location and role.
What documentation should I prepare before an employer starts the H-1B petition for an Airport Manager role?
Gather your academic transcripts and degree certificates, any professional aviation licenses or certifications (such as FAA credentials), a detailed resume showing progressive management responsibility, and a letter from the employer describing why the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. USCIS scrutinizes airport operations roles, so a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization strengthens your case if your degree is from outside the U.S.
