Match your degree to the role
H-1B approval for Parts Clerk roles hinges on proving specialty occupation. Pull the O*NET profile for your job code and document how your degree field directly maps to the technical knowledge the position requires, not just general business or logistics.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Parts Clerk roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation. Prior LCA filings show a sponsor already understands the DOL prevailing-wage certification process for your role.
Verify your prevailing wage tier early
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations start. Your offered wage must meet the Level I through IV threshold DOL assigns, knowing your tier lets you flag a low offer before it becomes a filing problem.
Ask about cap-exempt employer status
Some manufacturers and defense contractors qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. If your prospective employer holds a qualifying government research contract, your petition bypasses the annual 85,000-slot lottery entirely, which changes your start-date timeline significantly.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment before accepting
USCIS requires H-1B sponsors to be enrolled in E-Verify. For Parts Clerk roles at smaller distributors or regional suppliers, enrollment isn't always automatic, confirm it before your employer begins the I-129 filing process to avoid delays.
Plan your start date around the cap lottery
Cap-subject H-1B petitions have an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing in late spring, your employer can't file until the following April registration window. Factor that 12-to-18-month gap into job offer timing discussions with your hiring manager.
H-1B Visa Parts Clerk: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Parts Clerk role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. A Parts Clerk role qualifies as a specialty occupation if it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as supply chain management, industrial engineering, or a related technical discipline. Roles requiring only a high school diploma or general experience typically don't meet the USCIS specialty occupation standard. The employer's job description and internal requirements carry significant weight in the adjudication.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Parts Clerk positions?
Aerospace and defense, automotive manufacturing, heavy equipment, and medical device distribution are the sectors with the strongest H-1B filing history for parts and inventory roles. These employers deal with complex, regulated parts systems that often justify a degree requirement. You can browse verified sponsors on Migrate Mate, filtered specifically for Parts Clerk roles with active LCA filing history.
What does the employer need to file before my H-1B petition?
Before filing the I-129 petition with USCIS, your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL. The LCA confirms the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. The employer must also post a public notice at the worksite for ten consecutive business days before submitting the LCA. This step typically takes one to three weeks.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Parts Clerk employer?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, you don't need to wait for approval, provided your current H-1B was previously approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new LCA and petition, and the Parts Clerk role at the new company must still meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find Parts Clerk employers who are already set up to sponsor H-1B visas?
The most direct approach is searching for employers with a documented LCA filing history for your specific occupation code. Migrate Mate surfaces this data so you can identify companies that have already navigated DOL certification and USCIS petitions for Parts Clerk roles, rather than starting the sponsorship conversation from scratch with an employer unfamiliar with the process.
