Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Staffing Coordinator
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to staffing coordination duties. A degree in human resources, business administration, or organizational management gives you the strongest foundation. A general studies degree without relevant coursework can trigger an RFE.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Staffing Coordinator roles by employers who have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications. This screens out companies that post roles without a sponsorship infrastructure already in place, saving you from dead-end applications.
Look beyond staffing agencies for sponsorship
In-house Staffing Coordinator roles at hospitals, universities, and large manufacturers often sponsor H-1B workers more reliably than staffing agencies, which frequently resist petitioning for roles that coordinate other contractors' placements.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating offers
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. Run your offer through the OFLC Wage Search before signing anything so you know whether the salary qualifies for LCA certification.
Confirm cap-exempt status if hired by a nonprofit
Staffing Coordinator roles at qualifying nonprofits, universities, or government research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning your petition bypasses the annual lottery entirely. Ask HR directly whether the entity qualifies under USCIS cap-exempt criteria before counting on that advantage.
Get an offer letter before April registration opens
Your employer must register you in the USCIS H-1B lottery between March 1 and March 25. Missing that window means waiting a full year. Start your job search no later than January so offer negotiations conclude with enough lead time to register.
H-1B Visa Staffing Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Staffing Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS evaluates whether the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like human resources or business administration. If the job description accepts any degree or lists education as preferred rather than required, the employer will need to document why a specialized degree is genuinely necessary for that particular role.
How do I find Staffing Coordinator employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate for Staffing Coordinator roles filtered by employers with H-1B LCA filing history. This filters out postings from companies that have never petitioned for this visa category, so you're only seeing roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than a theoretical possibility the recruiter hasn't thought through.
Can a staffing agency sponsor my H-1B for a Staffing Coordinator role?
Staffing agencies can sponsor H-1B workers, but many are reluctant to do so for internal coordinator roles. The employer-employee relationship must be clear, and USCIS scrutinizes whether the agency exercises sufficient control over the worker's day-to-day duties. In-house coordinator roles at end-client companies typically present fewer adjudication complications than agency-sponsored placements.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from my Staffing Coordinator position?
You have a 60-day grace period after your last day of employment to find a new sponsor, change status, or depart the country. During this window, you're out of status but protected from accruing unlawful presence. If you receive a new H-1B transfer petition before the 60 days expire, your status continues without a gap.
Does HR experience outside the U.S. count toward H-1B qualification for this role?
Foreign work experience counts toward your qualifications, but your employer must document it carefully in the H-1B petition. If you lack a four-year degree, three years of relevant experience can substitute for each year of missing education under USCIS equivalency rules. A credentials evaluation from a recognized evaluation service strengthens the employer's case when filing.
