H-1B Visa Rehabilitation Specialist Jobs
Rehabilitation Specialist roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as rehabilitation science, kinesiology, or occupational therapy. Employers in hospital systems, outpatient clinics, and long-term care facilities regularly file LCAs for these roles. Your degree field and the job description must align for the petition to hold.

Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the Rehabilitation Specialist role. If your credential is in a adjacent field like exercise science or psychology, gather course transcripts showing rehabilitation-relevant coursework before any employer files your petition.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Rehabilitation Specialist openings by verified LCA filing history, so you're targeting employers who have already sponsored similar roles rather than guessing at sponsorship willingness during the offer stage.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier for your setting
Inpatient rehab facilities and outpatient clinics are classified differently under DOL wage levels. Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to know which wage tier applies before negotiating your offer.
Identify your O*NET occupational code early
Rehabilitation Specialist maps to multiple O*NET codes depending on specialization. Confirm the correct code with your employer before LCA filing because misclassification can trigger a Request for Evidence from USCIS during adjudication.
Use the 60-day grace period strategically
If your current H-1B employment ends, you have a 60-day grace period to secure a new petition. Prioritize employers who can file an H-1B transfer quickly, since your work authorization doesn't resume until the new employer's I-129 is received by USCIS.
Clarify cap-exempt status with healthcare employers
Nonprofits affiliated with hospitals or universities may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning you can start at any point in the year without waiting for the April lottery. Ask the employer's HR team whether their entity qualifies before accepting an offer.

Find Rehabilitation Specialist JobsRehabilitation Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Rehabilitation Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the employer's job description requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as rehabilitation science, kinesiology, or occupational therapy. The key issue is degree-to-role alignment. A generic bachelor's in any field won't satisfy the specialty occupation standard, so the posting language and your credentials both need to be precise before USCIS reviews the petition.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Rehabilitation Specialist positions?
Hospital systems, inpatient rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient therapy groups are the most active sponsors for this role. Nonprofit health systems affiliated with universities can sometimes file as cap-exempt employers, bypassing the annual lottery entirely. Use Migrate Mate to browse Rehabilitation Specialist openings filtered by employers with documented H-1B filing history.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for starting a Rehabilitation Specialist role?
If your target employer is cap-subject, your petition enters the April lottery with an October 1 start date if selected. Cap-exempt employers, including certain nonprofits and university-affiliated health systems, can file at any time with no lottery. Planning around that distinction is critical if you're finishing OPT or a grace period with a hard deadline.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change Rehabilitation Specialist jobs?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer once the transfer petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as your prior H-1B was valid for at least 180 days. The new employer files a new I-129, and USCIS reviews whether the new role also meets the specialty occupation standard under your degree field.
What wage documentation does my employer need when filing an H-1B for a Rehabilitation Specialist?
The employer must certify a Labor Condition Application with DOL stating they'll pay you the higher of the actual wage for the role or the prevailing wage for your job title and work location. That prevailing wage is pulled from DOL wage data, which you can preview yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer is finalized. Underpaying relative to the LCA wage is an enforcement violation.
