Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Restaurant Operations Management
Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Restaurant and Food Service Managers and confirm your job duties require a specific bachelor's degree, not just experience. Generic management titles weaken H-1B petitions, so get a written job description that ties degree field directly to daily responsibilities.
Target multi-unit and corporate-level employers
Single-location independent restaurants rarely have the legal infrastructure to sponsor H-1B visas. Focus on regional chains, national franchise operators, and hospitality groups with dedicated HR or in-house counsel, since they've navigated LCA filings and USCIS petitions before.
Search H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Before applying, use Migrate Mate to filter Restaurant Operations Management roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts out companies that have never sponsored so you invest your time in opportunities that can actually move forward.
Confirm the prevailing wage before negotiating
Look up the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title, experience level, and work location using the OFLC Wage Search. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure, and understanding the wage tier upfront prevents surprises during the LCA certification stage.
Time your application around the October 1 start date
H-1B petitions filed in April can't start employment until October 1 of that fiscal year. If you're negotiating a start date with a restaurant group, factor in this gap. Employers unfamiliar with hospitality hiring timelines may not realize the October constraint applies even after lottery selection.
Document your degree equivalency if needed
Many restaurant operations professionals hold three-year international hospitality degrees or diplomas combined with years of management experience. USCIS accepts a combination evaluation, but you'll need a credential assessment from an approved evaluation service before your employer files Form I-129.

Find Restaurant Operations Management JobsRestaurant Operations Management H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Restaurant Operations Management qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can qualify, but the role must require a specific bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, food service management, or a closely related field. A title like 'operations manager' alone isn't enough. Your job description needs to show that the degree is a minimum requirement, not just preferred, and that your daily duties directly use that specialized knowledge.
Which types of employers in this field are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas?
Multi-unit restaurant groups, national chains, hotel food and beverage divisions, and corporate contract dining companies are the most common sponsors. They have established HR teams familiar with LCA filings and USCIS processes. Independent and single-location operators rarely sponsor because the legal and administrative costs are harder to justify for one hire. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers with active H-1B filing history in this field.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect restaurant operations roles?
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying your salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your job title, experience level, and geographic area. Restaurant operations roles in high cost-of-living markets like New York or San Francisco carry higher prevailing wage thresholds than the same title in smaller markets. You can verify the applicable wage tier using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer.
Can work experience substitute for a degree in a Restaurant Operations Management H-1B petition?
USCIS allows a combination of education and work experience to satisfy the bachelor's degree equivalent standard, generally three years of specialized experience for each year of missing education. For a four-year degree, you'd need 12 years of progressive management experience. A credential evaluation from a recognized evaluation service is required to document this equivalency formally before your employer submits Form I-129.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm promoted or change roles within the same company?
A material change in job duties, title, or work location typically requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS and may require a new LCA with DOL. Moving from a single-unit manager role to a regional director overseeing multiple states, for example, would likely trigger an amendment. Your employer's immigration counsel should evaluate any promotion before it takes effect to avoid a status gap.
