H-1B Visa Security Project Manager Jobs
Security Project Managers oversee complex security programs that consistently qualify as H-1B specialty occupations, requiring a bachelor's degree in information security, cybersecurity, or a related field. Employers filing H-1B petitions for this role must certify prevailing wages through DOL before USCIS adjudicates the petition, a two-step process worth understanding before you apply.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Security Project Manager
Verify your degree matches the petition
USCIS requires a direct connection between your degree field and the Security Project Manager role. A general business or IT degree may trigger an RFE unless your transcript shows security-specific coursework or you hold a recognized certification like CISSP or PMP.
Check LCA filings before targeting employers
Use Migrate Mate to search employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings for security and project management roles. This filters out companies that lack the filing infrastructure or history to sponsor candidates in this occupation.
Confirm the role title on the LCA matches yours
DOL certifies the LCA under a specific Standard Occupational Classification code. Security Project Manager roles can fall under different SOC codes depending on whether the focus is IT security or physical security, and a mismatch creates problems at USCIS adjudication.
Negotiate offer timing around the H-1B cap
H-1B cap registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer outside that window, ask whether the employer qualifies as cap-exempt or can structure a deferred start, since missing the filing window by even a few weeks resets the timeline by a full year.
Document security program scope in your experience letters
When your employer prepares the I-129 support letter, the program scope you managed matters. Letters that quantify team size, budget oversight, and security frameworks you governed are harder for USCIS to challenge on specialty occupation grounds than generic descriptions.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offered wage
Before signing an offer, run your job location and SOC code through OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offered salary meets at least the Level I prevailing wage. An offer below the certified wage will cause the LCA to fail, stalling your entire petition.

Find Security Project Manager JobsSecurity Project Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Project Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS treats Security Project Manager as a specialty occupation when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like cybersecurity, information security, or computer science. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are more likely to face an RFE on specialty occupation grounds, so the job description wording your employer uses in the LCA matters.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for Security Project Manager roles?
Search Migrate Mate to filter for employers with active H-1B LCA filing history in security and project management occupations. DOL publishes Labor Condition Application disclosure data quarterly, and Migrate Mate surfaces that data by role and employer so you can target companies that have actually filed petitions rather than relying on employer self-reporting.
Which SOC code applies to H-1B petitions for Security Project Manager positions?
The correct SOC code depends on the role's primary focus. IT security project management typically files under SOC 11-3021 (Computer and Information Systems Managers) or 15-1299 (Information Security Analysts, All Other). Physical security program management may fall under a different code. Confirm the code your employer plans to use before the LCA is filed, since the prevailing wage and specialty occupation analysis depend on it.
Can I change employers during my H-1B if I'm a Security Project Manager?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. If you've held H-1B status for at least 180 days and your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before your current status expires, you can start the new job once the receipt notice is issued without waiting for approval. The new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation, and your new employer must file a fresh LCA for the position.
What credentials strengthen an H-1B petition for a Security Project Manager?
Certifications like CISSP, CISM, PMP, or CISA don't substitute for the required bachelor's degree, but they support the specialty occupation argument by demonstrating the technical depth USCIS looks for. If your degree is in a field like business or general IT rather than cybersecurity specifically, these credentials help establish the connection between your background and the security-focused role description.
