Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Service Technician
Verify your role meets specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility depends on whether your Service Technician position requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Check the O*NET profile for your occupation code and confirm your job duties align with the degree field your employer will list on the LCA.
Request prevailing wage documentation early
Your employer must certify your offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and location. Pull the wage level yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation so you know whether the salary being offered clears the threshold.
Search H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Filter by Service Technician roles on Migrate Mate to see which employers have filed H-1B LCAs for comparable positions. This tells you which companies have a real sponsorship track record, not just an HR policy that says they'll consider sponsorship.
Negotiate start date around the October 1 cap-subject window
Cap-subject H-1B petitions can be filed from April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing in late spring or summer, ask your employer to plan the petition filing timeline accordingly so your start date aligns with your authorized status.
Get field certifications into your petition supporting evidence
USCIS adjudicators scrutinize Service Technician roles for specialty occupation status. Trade certifications in HVAC, medical equipment, or industrial systems, alongside degree transcripts, strengthen the employer's case that the role requires specialized academic preparation.

Find Service Technician JobsService Technician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Service Technician role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on how the position is defined. H-1B requires a specialty occupation, meaning the job normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Service Technician roles in medical devices, industrial automation, or aerospace more readily meet this standard than general repair roles. Your employer's job description and the degree requirement they list on the LCA are what USCIS evaluates.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Service Technicians?
Medical equipment manufacturers, HVAC system companies, semiconductor equipment firms, and industrial automation employers are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Service Technician roles. These industries require technicians with engineering or applied science degrees, which maps more directly to specialty occupation requirements. Use Migrate Mate to browse Service Technician roles filtered by employers with documented H-1B LCA filing history.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off as a Service Technician?
USCIS provides a 60-day grace period after your employment ends, during which you can remain in the U.S. while pursuing a new employer or a change of status. Your new employer must file a new H-1B petition before the grace period expires. Cap-exempt employers, including certain nonprofits and research institutions, can file at any time without waiting for the annual lottery.
Can my H-1B employer require me to travel between sites as a Service Technician?
Yes, but multi-site work creates LCA compliance obligations. Your employer must file a new LCA or amend the petition if you work at a location not covered by the original filing for more than 30 consecutive days, or 60 days in certain circumstances. Short-term assignments under 30 days in a year are generally covered under the existing LCA with a posted notice requirement at each worksite.
How do I know if the salary my employer is offering clears the H-1B prevailing wage?
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific job title, SOC code, and work location before accepting an offer. The wage level on your LCA must match or exceed what DOL sets for that combination. If your employer is offering a wage below the prevailing level, the LCA won't be certified and the H-1B petition can't move forward.
