- Troubleshoot production-impacting issues across the full stack—from network configurations to application-level bugs—diving as deep as needed to unblock creative teams
- Design and implement solutions using AWS compute, storage, and networking services optimized for high-throughput media workloads
- Build secure infrastructure following AWS best practices for encryption (at-rest and in-transit), IAM policies, VPC design, and authentication mechanisms
- Collaborate with Product Management and internal Production Technology teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Automate operational tasks and build self-service tools that empower production teams

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Systems Development Engineer
Match your degree to the SOC code
Systems Development Engineer maps to SOC 15-1244 under the O*NET framework. USCIS scrutinizes degree-to-role alignment closely for this title, so verify your transcript reflects software systems, computer engineering, or a directly related field before applying.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Systems Development Engineer or equivalent titles. Employers with consistent LCA history for this role are already set up to sponsor and understand the process.
Target infrastructure-heavy engineering orgs
Cloud platform teams, distributed systems groups, and semiconductor firms file H-1B petitions for this title far more often than general software shops. Focusing your search on these orgs raises the odds your offer will come with a ready sponsorship workflow.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Look up the DOL prevailing wage for SOC 15-1244 in your target metro using the OFLC Wage Search before you enter salary discussions. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so knowing it protects you from offers that can't legally clear filing.
Ask about cap-exempt status during screening
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated labs are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B outside the annual lottery. If your Systems Development Engineer role is at one of these organizations, you can start any time of year without waiting for April registration.
Prepare your I-129 documentation early
Your employer's attorney will need your degree certificates, transcripts, and a detailed job description tying your systems work to your field of study. Having these ready before the offer stage speeds up the USCIS petition process and reduces back-and-forth during filing.

Find Systems Development Engineer JobsSystems Development Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Systems Development Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. Systems Development Engineer roles require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the USCIS specialty occupation standard. The key is that the specific degree field must connect directly to the systems work described in the job duties. A general business degree won't support the petition even if you have years of relevant experience.
Which industries file the most H-1B petitions for Systems Development Engineers?
Cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, semiconductor design, and hyperscaler platform teams generate the highest LCA filing volume for this title. Defense contractors and financial services firms with large internal engineering platforms also file regularly. You can search LCA filing history by employer and occupation on Migrate Mate to see which companies actively sponsor this specific role rather than guessing from brand recognition alone.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Systems Development Engineer role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition on your behalf, without waiting for USCIS approval, as long as you're in valid H-1B status. The new employer must file a new LCA for the specific role and location. If the SOC code or job duties shift significantly from your current petition, USCIS may treat it as a new specialty occupation determination.
Does remote work affect my H-1B as a Systems Development Engineer?
Remote work creates a location compliance issue. Your employer's LCA certifies wages and working conditions for a specific worksite. If you work remotely from a different metropolitan area, your employer typically needs to post LCA notices at the new location and may need to file an amended petition with USCIS. Short-term remote arrangements within your certified metro are generally lower risk, but extended remote work in a different location requires attention before you move.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Systems Development Engineers?
The most reliable signal is DOL Labor Condition Application data, which shows which employers have certified wages for this specific role. Migrate Mate surfaces that LCA filing history by employer and job title, so you can prioritize companies with a documented track record of sponsoring Systems Development Engineers rather than relying on job postings that may or may not lead to a visa petition.
