Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Technical Accounting Manager
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your accounting or finance degree to directly relate to the Technical Accounting Manager role. A general business degree alone has triggered RFEs for this title, so gather your transcripts and a degree equivalency evaluation before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have filed LCAs specifically for accounting manager roles, so you're applying to companies with a real H-1B sponsorship track record rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Run your target city and SOC code 13-2011 through the OFLC Wage Search before you get to the offer stage. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage, and knowing the floor strengthens your negotiation.
Confirm the employer files cap-subject petitions
Some companies sponsor TN visa or L-1 visa holders but have never filed a cap-subject H-1B. Ask HR directly whether they've gone through USCIS lottery registration before, because a first-time sponsor adds months of internal legal preparation to your timeline.
Align your CPA or CMA credentials before filing
Employers documenting specialty occupation often include professional licensure alongside your degree. Having an active CPA license or CMA certification on file when the I-129 is prepared reduces the chance of a specialty occupation RFE for this specific title.
Plan your start date around the October 1 cap-gap
If you're transitioning from OPT, your employment can't begin before October 1 even after USCIS approves the petition. Employers sometimes rescind offers when they don't understand this gap, so walk your hiring manager through the cap-gap rule early in the process.
H-1B Visa Technical Accounting Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Accounting Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS treats accounting manager roles as specialty occupations when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a directly related field. O*NET classifies this work under SOC 13-2011, which consistently meets the theoretical and practical application standard USCIS uses to evaluate specialty occupation claims.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring H-1B visas for this role?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Technical Accounting Manager openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. DOL discloses all certified LCAs publicly, and Migrate Mate surfaces that data by employer and job title so you're not relying on job descriptions that may not reflect actual sponsorship capability.
What documents should I have ready before an employer starts the H-1B filing process?
You'll need official transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., your current I-94 or visa documentation, and any professional licenses such as a CPA. For Technical Accounting Manager roles, employers often also gather evidence of specialized technical accounting experience, such as ASC 606, ASC 842, or purchase accounting work, to support the specialty occupation argument in the I-129.
Can I switch to a new employer while on H-1B in this role?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. Once USCIS has had your petition pending for 180 days, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 is filed, without waiting for approval. The new employer must file before your current authorized period expires and the role must remain in a specialty occupation.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for Technical Accounting Manager positions?
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for SOC 13-2011 in your specific geographic area. Prevailing wages vary significantly by metro and wage level. You can look up the applicable figure for any city using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer letter is drafted, which helps you confirm the employer's offer is LCA-compliant.
