H-1B1 Chile Visa Civil Engineer Jobs
H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship lets Chilean civil engineers work in the U.S. without entering the H-1B lottery. The 1,400-visa annual cap rarely fills, and your application is processed directly at the consulate. Employers file a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you can start work without waiting for USCIS approval.

Align your degree to U.S. specialty occupation standards
Chilean civil engineering degrees are evaluated against the U.S. specialty occupation definition, which requires a bachelor's in a directly related field. Have your credentials assessed by a DOL-recognized credential evaluator before applying to confirm equivalency.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filing history
Search the OFLC Wage Search to identify engineering firms that have filed Labor Condition Applications for civil engineer roles. Employers already familiar with LCA filings for H-1B1 Chile move faster and rarely require internal legal escalation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for H-1B1 Chile sponsoring roles
Migrate Mate surfaces civil engineer jobs from employers with verified DOL filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored Chilean professionals. Filter directly by occupation to find active opportunities.
Verify your prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer's LCA must certify your wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Look up the wage level for your specific civil engineering specialty using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting any offer.
Request the LCA before your consulate appointment
Unlike H-1B, your H-1B1 Chile application is filed at the consulate, not through USCIS. Confirm your employer has a certified LCA in hand before you schedule your visa interview, since consular officers require it at appointment.
Check your O*NET profile to strengthen your specialty occupation case
Civil engineering subdivisions like structural, geotechnical, and transportation each have distinct O*NET profiles. Matching your job duties and degree to the specific O*NET classification reduces the risk of a specialty occupation challenge during consular review.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a civil engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes. Civil engineering meets the specialty occupation requirement because it typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering or a closely related field. Your specific subdiscipline, such as structural, geotechnical, or transportation engineering, should match your degree field. The employer confirms this in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before your consulate appointment.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for civil engineers?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery, no USCIS petition, and an annual cap of 1,400 visas that rarely fills. For civil engineers, this means your application goes directly to the consulate after the employer files a certified LCA with DOL. The H-1B requires USCIS approval and lottery selection, which can delay employment by over a year.
How do I find civil engineer employers who sponsor the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Migrate Mate filters civil engineer job listings by employers with verified DOL LCA filing history, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored H-1B1 Chile professionals. This is more reliable than applying broadly, since not all engineering firms are familiar with the H-1B1 Chile process or have set up the required DOL filing workflow.
Can I work for a civil engineering staffing firm or contractor on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, but the employer of record, meaning the company on the LCA and H-1B1 visa application, must be your direct employer. Staffing arrangements where a third-party places you at a client site can create complications if the end client is not listed as the petitioner. Confirm which entity will sign your employment documents before proceeding.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my civil engineering project ends early?
H-1B1 Chile status is tied to your employer and role, not a specific project. If your employment ends, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the U.S. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you must obtain a new H-1B1 Chile visa stamp before re-entering.
