Verify your degree field aligns
The H-1B1 visa requires a degree in a directly related field. For Manufacturing Engineer roles, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering degrees are the strongest match. A business or general science degree may trigger employer pushback during the LCA filing.
Research prevailing wages before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the Level I through Level IV thresholds before your offer conversation, not after.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
H-1B1 visa employers must participate in E-Verify. Filter your outreach to U.S. manufacturers already enrolled, since asking a company to sign up as part of your offer adds friction that often kills the process.
Search verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with documented LCA filing history filtered for H-1B1 Chile eligibility, so you're targeting companies that have already sponsored Chilean nationals rather than guessing from general job postings.
Confirm your employer files the LCA before you apply
Unlike H-1B visa, H-1B1 visa consular processing means you apply directly at a Chilean consulate, but the employer's certified LCA must exist before your visa interview. Delays in LCA certification from DOL will push your interview date back.
Prepare a specialty occupation evidence packet
Consular officers assess specialty occupation at the interview. Bring your degree transcripts, the O*NET profile for Manufacturing Engineers showing the bachelor's degree requirement, and your signed offer letter specifying the technical scope of the role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Manufacturing Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes. Manufacturing Engineer is classified under SOC code 17-2112, and the O*NET profile confirms a bachelor's degree in engineering is the standard entry requirement. That degree-to-job alignment is what USCIS and consular officers look for when assessing specialty occupation. Roles where any general degree is accepted, regardless of field, typically don't qualify.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for a Manufacturing Engineer?
The H-1B1 visa skips the lottery entirely and is processed at the consulate rather than through USCIS, which means faster timelines and no random selection risk. The tradeoff is that the H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't file an immigrant visa petition while on H-1B1 status the way H-1B holders can. For Chilean engineers focused on near-term employment, H-1B1 is the more direct path.
Where can I find Manufacturing Engineer jobs that specifically offer H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built for exactly this search. It filters employers by LCA filing history and visa type, so you can identify U.S. manufacturers who have sponsored H-1B1 Chile visas for engineering roles rather than applying speculatively to companies with no sponsorship track record.
How long does H-1B1 Chile consular processing take for Manufacturing Engineer applicants?
After your employer receives DOL certification for the LCA, you schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Chile. Interview availability varies by location and season, but the H-1B1 visa cap of 1,400 visas per year has never been exhausted, so slot availability isn't a bottleneck the way it is for H-1B. Most applicants receive a decision at or shortly after the interview.
Can my H-1B1 Chile visa be renewed if my employer changes my work location or project scope?
A change in work location to a different metropolitan statistical area requires your employer to file a new or amended LCA with DOL before you can work at the new site. H-1B1 visas are issued in two-year increments with no cap on renewals, but each renewal requires a currently certified LCA that reflects your actual work location and prevailing wage.
