Verify your CDR credential before applying
U.S. employers require Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentials from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Confirm your Chilean nutrition degree meets equivalency standards before targeting roles, since employers filing an H-1B1 visa LCA need proof the specialty occupation requirement is satisfied.
Search H-1B1 Chile jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters employers by H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already sponsored Chilean professionals rather than cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the visa category.
Target healthcare systems over private practices
Large hospital networks and integrated health systems have dedicated HR and legal teams experienced with LCA filings. Smaller outpatient clinics often haven't sponsored foreign nationals before, making the H-1B1 process slower and less predictable for you.
Confirm the employer files the LCA before signing
The H-1B1 requires a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your consular interview. Ask any prospective employer directly whether they'll file the LCA themselves or use outside counsel, since you can't start consular processing without it.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
DOL requires your offered wage to meet the prevailing wage for Registered Dietitians in your work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so you know the wage floor the employer must meet and can flag underpayment early.
Prepare your DS-160 using your Chilean passport details
H-1B1 Chile applications go through consular processing at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago. Complete the DS-160 accurately with your Chilean nationality and intended employer details, since inconsistencies between the DS-160 and certified LCA are a common cause of administrative delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Registered Dietitian role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes. Registered Dietitian is classified as a specialty occupation because it requires at least a bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a directly related field. The O*NET profile for Registered Dietitians confirms the role requires specialized theoretical and practical knowledge, which satisfies the H-1B1 specialty occupation standard at the consular level.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for Registered Dietitians?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery, processes at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago rather than through USCIS, and the 1,400-visa annual cap has never come close to filling. The H-1B requires a USCIS petition, subjects you to random selection, and involves significantly longer wait times. For Chilean dietitians with a qualifying job offer, the H-1B1 is the faster, more predictable path.
What documents does my employer need to file for my H-1B1 Chile sponsorship?
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which certifies that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for Registered Dietitians in your work location and that hiring you won't adversely affect similarly employed U.S. workers. Once DOL certifies the LCA, you use it to complete your DS-160 and attend your consular interview at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago.
How do I find employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Chile visa for a dietitian role?
Migrate Mate lets you search Registered Dietitian roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history. That filters out employers who have never sponsored Chilean professionals, so you're spending time on applications where the sponsorship process is already familiar to the hiring team.
Can I work in clinical and community nutrition settings on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, as long as the role meets the specialty occupation requirement and your employer files the LCA. Hospital inpatient nutrition departments, outpatient clinics, public health agencies, and corporate wellness programs all qualify, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in dietetics or nutrition and your employer is willing to complete the DOL filing process.
