Verify your CCC-SLP credential transfers
Your Chilean speech-language pathology degree must align with a U.S. specialty occupation. Check the O*NET profile for Speech-Language Pathologists to confirm your academic background maps to the required graduate-level credentials before approaching employers.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Search the OFLC Wage Search for certified Labor Condition Applications filed under SOC code 29-1127 to identify healthcare systems, school districts, and rehabilitation networks that have already sponsored SLP roles on the H-1B1 Chile visa.
Find H-1B1 Chile SLP jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Speech Language Pathologist roles by employers with verified H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history, so you're only targeting organizations that have filed LCAs for this occupation before.
Clarify state licensure timing with your employer
Most U.S. states require an active SLP license before you can practice, but licensure often takes months after arrival. Negotiate a start date that gives you a realistic window to pass the Praxis exam and complete your state board application.
Understand the H-1B1 Chile annual renewal cycle
Unlike H-1B visa, the H-1B1 Chile visa is granted in one-year increments and doesn't permit dual intent. Your employer needs to file a new LCA each year, so confirm their HR team understands this timeline before accepting an offer.
Use OFLC wage data to benchmark your offer
Run your job title, specialty, and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage DOL will use to evaluate your LCA. An offer below the wage level listed can delay or prevent LCA certification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the H-1B1 Chile visa work for Speech Language Pathologist roles?
Yes. Speech Language Pathologist is a specialty occupation requiring a graduate degree in communication sciences or disorders, which satisfies the H-1B1 Chile visa's specialty occupation requirement. Employers file a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile, with no USCIS petition and no lottery.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for SLP professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely, which means Chilean SLP professionals can secure sponsorship any time of year rather than waiting for an April registration window. The trade-off is that H-1B1 Chile is issued in one-year increments and doesn't allow dual intent, while H-1B offers three-year initial periods and a path toward permanent residence.
Which employers regularly sponsor Speech Language Pathologists on the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Healthcare systems, pediatric hospitals, school districts, and outpatient rehabilitation groups are the most consistent SLP sponsors. To find employers with verified sponsorship history for this role, search Migrate Mate, which filters positions by employers with documented H-1B1 Chile LCA filings for SLP and related occupations.
Does a Chilean SLP degree satisfy U.S. specialty occupation requirements?
It can, but USCIS evaluates whether your credential is equivalent to a U.S. master's degree in communication sciences or disorders. A credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator is typically required. If your degree is a five-year Chilean licensure program, most evaluators will map it to a U.S. graduate-level qualification.
Can I obtain a U.S. state SLP license before my H-1B1 Chile visa is approved?
No. State licensure in most jurisdictions requires a valid Social Security Number and U.S. work authorization, which you won't have until after your visa is issued and you've entered the country. Build at least two to three months post-arrival into your timeline before you'll be cleared to practice independently under your state license.
