H-1B1 Chile Visa Research Technician Jobs
H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship gives Chilean nationals a direct path to Research Technician roles in U.S. labs and research facilities. No lottery, no USCIS petition filing, and the annual 1,400-visa cap almost never fills, so your consular application moves on its own timeline without competing against a random draw.

Overview:
The Department of Neuroscience is a basic science department that focuses on cutting-edge research in the areas of synapse development and function, sensory systems, and complex behavior, cognitive neuroscience, and behavioral neurobiology. The Bygrave lab is supported by funding from the federal government, charitable foundations as well as university funds. The faculty within the department is also extensively involved with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science Program in Neuroscience as well as teaching within the medical school.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Under close supervision of Principal Investigator, the candidate in this role would join a supportive team to conduct a variety of experiments to evaluate mechanisms of neuronal circuit function and behaviors relevant to psychiatric disease. There are four primary duties for this position:
1) support the running of the lab through ordering reagents and supplies,
2) use of viral vectors and immunohistochemistry to evaluate expression profiles,
3) behavioral testing in mice, and
4) use of image analysis pipelines for data analysis.
Having prior experiences in any of the following is a plus (but not a prerequisite) for the position: biochemistry, molecular biology, experience working with mice, coding proficiency to build/utilize analysis pipelines. This could be a good opportunity for someone looking to gain research experience ahead of applying to graduate school. More information about the Bygrave lab can be found here: https://www.bygravelab.com/home

Align your degree field to the position
Research Technician roles must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning your bachelor's degree field needs a direct connection to the lab work described. A degree in biology, chemistry, or a related applied science will support the H-1B1 visa classification more cleanly than a general science credential.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer's Labor Condition Application must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing rate for Research Technicians in that location. Pull the rate yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before you negotiate, so your offer already clears the threshold your employer must file against.
Target labs with existing LCA filing history
Research institutions that have already filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B visa or H-1B1 positions understand the process and won't need to build compliance infrastructure from scratch. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers with active sponsorship history filtered specifically for research and technical roles.
Get your academic credentials evaluated early
Chilean university transcripts need a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency before your consular interview. Research Technician roles often require proof of specific lab coursework, so start this process as soon as you receive a job offer to avoid delays.
Confirm the employer is not cap-dependent on timing
Unlike H-1B, the H-1B1 Chile cap of 1,400 rarely fills, so there's no fiscal-year race. Confirm with your employer that they understand the LCA must be certified by DOL before you can schedule your consular appointment, since some HR teams unfamiliar with H-1B1 mistakenly expect a USCIS petition step.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent at the consulate
The H-1B1 does not allow dual intent, so your consular officer will assess whether you intend to return to Chile eventually. Research Technicians on multi-year contracts should be ready to explain the temporary nature of the role and their ties to Chile without undermining the legitimacy of the position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Research Technician role qualify for H-1B1 Chile sponsorship?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely aligned applied science. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field, or that only require an associate degree or certification, won't meet the specialty occupation standard that H-1B1 Chile requires.
How is H-1B1 Chile different from H-1B for Research Technician jobs?
H-1B requires a lottery that admits roughly one in four registrants, and USCIS must approve the petition before you can proceed. H-1B1 Chile skips both steps. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile. The annual cap of 1,400 visas has not historically been exhausted, so timing is far more predictable.
How do I find U.S. employers that will sponsor an H-1B1 Chile visa for a Research Technician?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for employers with H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history, so you can focus on labs and research institutions that already understand the filing process. Targeting employers with existing Labor Condition Application records in technical and scientific occupations significantly reduces the risk of losing an offer because HR is unfamiliar with the visa category.
Can my employer file the H-1B1 Chile LCA for a part-time Research Technician position?
Yes, the H-1B1 is not restricted to full-time employment. The DOL Labor Condition Application can be certified for part-time roles, but the prevailing wage obligation is prorated to the hours worked. Your employer must still certify that the offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing rate for that fraction of full-time work in that geographic location.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my research contract ends early?
You have a grace period of up to 60 days after your position ends before you must depart, change status, or secure a new H-1B1 qualifying role with a different employer. A new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL before you can begin work. Migrate Mate can help you identify employers actively sponsoring Research Technician positions if you need to transition quickly.
