INTRODUCTION
Meta's data center infrastructure depends on a resilient, cost-effective supply base for power and cooling equipment. The Sourcing and Commodity Management team is responsible for developing and executing category strategies that secure supply, optimize total cost of ownership, and enable the on-time delivery of critical infrastructure at global scale. In this role, you will lead strategic sourcing for power and cooling equipment categories — including uninterruptible power supplies, switchgear, transformers, precision cooling units, and related mechanical and electrical systems — partnering closely with engineering, supply chain, and construction teams to shape supplier relationships and category direction across Meta's data center portfolio.
Commercial Sourcing Manager, Power and Cooling Infrastructure Responsibilities:
- Define and execute multi-year category strategies for power and cooling infrastructure equipment, including market analysis, supplier segmentation, and sourcing roadmaps aligned to data center capacity growth
- Lead competitive sourcing events, contract negotiations, and supplier selection processes for high-value power and cooling equipment categories such as UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, CRAC and CRAH units, and cooling towers
- Develop and manage strategic supplier relationships, conducting regular business reviews to drive performance improvements in quality, delivery, cost, and capacity
- Analyze total cost of ownership across the power and cooling supply base, identifying and executing cost reduction and value engineering opportunities in collaboration with engineering and design teams
- Assess and mitigate supply chain risks associated with power and cooling equipment, including geopolitical exposure, single-source dependencies, long-lead-time components, and commodity price volatility
- Partner with data center engineering, construction, and capacity planning teams to align sourcing strategies with technology roadmaps and infrastructure deployment schedules
- Establish and track supplier capacity commitments to ensure supply availability supports Meta's global data center build pipeline
- Drive supplier development initiatives to qualify new sources of supply, expand geographic diversity, and improve supply chain resilience for critical power and cooling categories
- Develop executive-level reporting and category insights, communicating sourcing strategy, supplier performance, and risk posture to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership
- Collaborate with legal, finance, and sustainability teams to structure contracts that reflect Meta's commercial, compliance, and environmental requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, category management, or procurement for power and cooling infrastructure equipment or related mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience leading end-to-end sourcing processes including RFx development, supplier evaluation, commercial negotiation, and contract execution for capital equipment categories
- Experience developing category strategies that incorporate market intelligence, total cost of ownership analysis, and supply risk assessment
- Experience managing supplier relationships and driving measurable improvements in supplier performance across cost, quality, and delivery
- Experience communicating complex sourcing strategies and supplier performance data to cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience sourcing power and cooling equipment specifically for hyperscale or large-scale data center environments, including familiarity with UPS, switchgear, transformers, and precision cooling systems
- Experience applying should-cost modeling or value engineering methodologies to capital equipment categories
- Experience working cross-functionally with data center engineering or construction teams to align procurement strategy with infrastructure design and deployment timelines
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Familiarity with commodity market dynamics affecting power and cooling equipment, including copper, steel, and refrigerant supply chains
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

Align your degree to sourcing requirements
The H-1B1 Chile requires a specialty occupation degree. For sourcing roles, a business administration, supply chain management, or industrial engineering credential maps most directly. Pull your role's O*NET profile to confirm the typical educational requirements before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Employers must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before sponsoring you. Use Migrate Mate to filter sourcing roles by verified LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already committed to the H-1B1 visa process.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage data
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your sourcing role and location. Run your job title and ZIP code through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer to verify compliance upfront.
Request an LCA before your offer letter finalizes
Many sourcing candidates don't realize DOL must certify the LCA before you can schedule your consulate appointment. Ask your employer explicitly whether they've started the DOL filing, not just whether they'll sponsor you.
Prepare Chilean credential documentation early
Consulate officers assess whether your Chilean degree qualifies as a U.S. bachelor's equivalent. Gather official transcripts, degree certificates, and any translation documents before you begin your job search so nothing delays your visa appointment once you have an offer.
Confirm your employer's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
Federal contractors and STEM-adjacent supply chain employers are often required to use E-Verify for employment eligibility. Confirming enrollment status before you accept avoids complications at onboarding that could delay your start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a sourcing role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as supply chain management, business administration, or industrial engineering. Generic procurement coordinator roles that accept any degree may not qualify. The job description must establish that specialized knowledge is a genuine requirement, not just a preference, for the H-1B1 Chile visa to apply.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for sourcing professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery, processes directly at the consulate, and its 1,400-visa annual cap rarely fills, making it a more predictable path than H-1B for Chilean nationals. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 Chile does not confer dual intent, so you must maintain a nonimmigrant residence abroad. For sourcing roles where you want faster, lottery-free sponsorship, H-1B1 Chile is generally the stronger option.
How do I find employers willing to sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas for sourcing jobs?
Migrate Mate filters sourcing roles by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can identify employers who have already committed to H-1B1 Chile sponsorship rather than guessing from a general job listing. Many sourcing employers are unfamiliar with the H-1B1 Chile visa specifically, so targeting those with LCA history saves significant time in the search.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my sourcing contract ends or I'm laid off?
The H-1B1 Chile visa is employer-specific and tied to your approved LCA. If your role ends, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the country. A new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you may need to attend a new consulate appointment before you can begin work.
Can I transfer my H-1B1 Chile sponsorship to a different sourcing employer?
There is no direct portability mechanism for the H-1B1 Chile visa the way H-1B portability works under AC21. Your new employer must file a new LCA with DOL and you'll need to apply for a new H-1B1 Chile visa at the consulate. Planning your job transition around consulate appointment availability in Chile is a practical step many candidates overlook until the last moment.
