Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
Supply Chain Manager roles must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Pull the O*NET profile for your SOC code to document the degree requirement before your employer files the LCA.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to find employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for supply chain and operations roles. Employers already familiar with the LCA process are far less likely to withdraw an offer over paperwork concerns.
Confirm your employer's prevailing wage before offer letters circulate
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your job title and work location. If the offered salary falls below the DOL wage level, the LCA certification will fail and your consular application won't proceed.
Request LCA certification well before your start date
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven working days, but your employer needs time to post the public notice for ten business days first. Build at least three to four weeks into your timeline between offer acceptance and consular appointment.
Prepare Chilean degree equivalency documentation proactively
Consular officers evaluate whether your Chilean undergraduate degree meets the U.S. bachelor's-level standard for supply chain roles. A credential evaluation from an NACES-member organization strengthens your application if your degree title or field isn't an obvious direct match.
Treat each H-1B1 Chile renewal as a fresh consular filing
Unlike H-1B visa extensions filed through USCIS, H-1B1 Chile renewals return to the consulate each time. Confirm with your employer that they'll file a new LCA for every two-year renewal cycle so your authorization doesn't lapse between terms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Supply Chain Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile purposes?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, logistics, industrial engineering, or a closely related field. Roles where any business degree satisfies the requirement regardless of concentration can face scrutiny. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the LCA, so the job description needs to specify the field, not just a generic bachelor's degree.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa differ from the H-1B for supply chain professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery and no USCIS petition filing. Your employer files an LCA with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile. The trade-off is that H-1B1 Chile doesn't carry dual intent protection, so you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while holding H-1B1 status the way some H-1B holders do.
Which U.S. employers typically sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas for supply chain roles?
Employers in manufacturing, retail, pharmaceuticals, and logistics who already file LCAs for operations and supply chain professionals are the most practical targets. Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies with verified LCA filing history in supply chain and operations job families. Employers experienced with LCA compliance rarely need extensive hand-holding through the process.
Can I switch supply chain employers while on H-1B1 Chile status?
Yes, but the new employer must file a certified LCA before you begin work, and you'll typically need to return to the consulate in Chile for a new visa stamp rather than filing a change of status through USCIS. There's no portability provision equivalent to H-1B portability, so timing your resignation and new start date around consular appointment availability is essential.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my supply chain role is restructured or reclassified?
A material change in your job duties, title, or work location may require your employer to file an amended LCA with DOL before the change takes effect. If your role shifts from a specialty occupation to a generalist management position that no longer requires a degree in a specific field, your status eligibility could be affected. Confirm any restructuring with your employer's immigration contact before accepting a new role description.
