Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Application Security Engineer
Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation
Your degree must be in a directly related field like computer science, information security, or electrical engineering. A general IT diploma won't satisfy the specialty occupation standard for Application Security Engineer roles under H-1B1 visa rules.
Search LCA filings for active security hiring
Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify U.S. employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Application Security Engineer roles. Companies with recent LCA activity are already familiar with H-1B1 visa sponsorship obligations and are actively budgeting for security hires.
Find verified H-1B1 employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Application Security Engineer roles by H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate. The platform surfaces employers with confirmed DOL filing history for this occupation, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored the visa type.
Confirm your offer letter names the correct visa
Before your consular appointment, ensure your employer's offer letter explicitly references H-1B1 visa status, not generic H-1B visa. Consular officers at the Singapore U.S. Embassy review this document, and an ambiguous letter can delay or complicate your application.
Match your experience to O*NET occupation codes
Application Security Engineer maps to specific O*NET occupation codes that define required knowledge in cryptography, network security, and secure software development. Aligning your resume to these technical competencies strengthens the specialty occupation case your employer documents in the LCA.
Negotiate employer coverage of LCA filing costs
The employer bears responsibility for DOL LCA filing under H-1B1 visa rules. Raise this in offer negotiations before signing, since some smaller U.S. tech employers incorrectly assume you'll self-file or share costs, which is not permitted for this visa category.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Application Security Engineer qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes. Application Security Engineer requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. The role's technical depth in areas like penetration testing, secure code review, and vulnerability management consistently supports this classification. Your employer documents this in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before your consular appointment.
How does H-1B1 Singapore compare to H-1B for Application Security Engineer roles?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the lottery entirely, which is a meaningful difference given that H-1B selection rates have been around 25% in recent years. The annual cap is 5,400 visas and has never come close to filling. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so maintaining clear nonimmigrant ties to Singapore matters at your consular interview. For roles in high-demand security fields, the direct consular path often moves faster than waiting through an H-1B lottery cycle.
Which U.S. employers actively sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for security engineers?
Employers with existing H-1B or H-1B1 LCA filing history in cybersecurity and application security are your best starting point. Use Migrate Mate to filter Application Security Engineer openings by H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, which surfaces companies with verified DOL filing activity for this visa type and occupation, rather than employers who may be unfamiliar with the H-1B1 category entirely.
Can I switch employers on H-1B1 Singapore if I receive a better security role offer?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new Labor Condition Application and a new consular application or an amended status filing. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, H-1B1 visa doesn't carry the same mid-petition transfer protections. You'll need your new employer to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll typically need to attend another consular appointment in Singapore before starting with the new company.
What security certifications strengthen an H-1B1 Singapore application for this role?
Certifications don't substitute for the degree requirement but they reinforce the specialty occupation argument. OSCP, CISSP, CEH, or cloud security certifications like AWS Security Specialty signal hands-on technical depth that aligns with the O*NET competency profile for Application Security Engineer. Include them in your resume and ensure your employer references the technical requirements in the job description attached to the LCA filing.
