Verify your degree field aligns precisely
H-1B1 visa requires your degree to match the specific IT discipline of the role, not just any technical field. A computer science degree supporting a network engineering role carries less risk than a general IT degree for a software development position.
Search employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter IT Engineer roles by employers who have already filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 Singapore holders. These employers understand the consulate-based process and won't stall when your offer letter is issued.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Look up the DOL prevailing wage for your specific IT Engineer SOC code and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before discussing compensation. Your offer must meet or exceed the Level I-IV wage tied to your role and employer's metro area.
Request the LCA before signing your offer
The employer must certify the LCA with DOL before you can apply at the consulate. Ask HR to confirm LCA filing is underway, not just planned, so your consulate appointment isn't delayed waiting on employer action.
Use O*NET to document your specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for IT Engineers to confirm the listed degree requirement matches your credentials. Consular officers assess specialty occupation status, and your O*NET printout gives you a concrete reference if the officer questions your role's qualification threshold.
Prepare for annual status renewal without gaps
H-1B1 Singapore visas are issued in one-year increments and don't automatically extend if your role changes. Confirm with your employer that renewal filings are initiated at least 60 days before your current status expires to avoid any lapse in authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, IT Engineer roles qualify as specialty occupations when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems. Roles where any general degree is acceptable, regardless of field, can create problems at the consulate, so the job description must specify the degree requirement clearly.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from the H-1B for IT Engineer jobs?
The H-1B visa1 Singapore visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely, has a dedicated annual cap of 5,400 visas for Singaporeans that has never been fully used, and is processed at the U.S. consulate in Singapore rather than through USCIS. The trade-off is that H-1B visa1 is issued in one-year increments rather than three, and the visa does not carry dual intent, meaning you cannot simultaneously pursue a green card while on H-1B1 status.
Where can I find IT Engineer jobs with verified H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters IT Engineer roles specifically by employers with H-1B1 Singapore Labor Condition Application filing history, so you're not guessing which companies will actually go through with sponsorship. That LCA data comes directly from DOL disclosures and reflects what employers have already committed to, not just what they've advertised.
Can I switch IT Engineer employers while on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
You can change employers, but there is no H-1B1 portability provision equivalent to what exists under H-1B. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you must obtain a new H-1B1 visa stamp at the consulate before starting work, which means coordinating your resignation timing carefully to avoid a gap between your current authorization and your new employer's approval.
Does the H-1B1 Singapore visa require employer E-Verify enrollment for IT Engineer positions?
E-Verify enrollment is not a universal requirement for H-1B1 employers the way it is for STEM OPT employers, but employers with federal contracts or in certain states are already required to participate. Ask prospective employers whether they're E-Verify enrolled during your offer discussions, as it signals familiarity with work authorization compliance and typically speeds up onboarding paperwork for your first day.
