Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an IT Support Engineer
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
H-1B1 visa requires your IT Support Engineer role to need a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Check the O*NET profile for this occupation to confirm the standard educational requirement before applying.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
Some states require E-Verify enrollment for government contractors and certain industries. Filtering for E-Verify-enrolled employers in IT services reduces delays after your visa is approved and you begin work authorization.
Search H-1B1 sponsorship jobs on Migrate Mate
Pull up Migrate Mate to find IT Support Engineer roles filtered by H-1B1 visa filing history. Employers who've sponsored Singapore nationals before understand the consular process and won't ask you to go through USCIS.
Confirm the employer files the Labor Condition Application
Before your consulate interview, the employer must file and receive DOL certification for your LCA. Ask HR explicitly who handles the LCA filing and what their typical certification timeline is so your interview isn't scheduled prematurely.
Prepare credentials showing hands-on technical scope
Consular officers assess whether your IT Support Engineer duties genuinely require a degree. Gather documentation showing system administration complexity, infrastructure scope, or enterprise-level responsibilities that distinguish your role from generalist helpdesk work.
Use OFLC Wage Search to validate your offered salary
Your employer's LCA must certify your wage meets the prevailing wage for your location and job title. Run OFLC Wage Search using the specific SOC code for IT support to flag any wage level issues before the LCA is submitted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Support Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1?
It depends on how the role is scoped. Entry-level helpdesk work that accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field typically won't qualify. Roles requiring a degree specifically in computer science, information systems, or a related technical discipline are far stronger candidates. Your employer's job description and the duties listed on the LCA both factor into the consular officer's assessment.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for IT Support Engineer jobs?
The H-1B1 visa skips the lottery entirely and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS, so there's no petition filing wait. The annual cap is 5,400 visas and has never been reached. The trade-off is that the H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, meaning it's harder to pursue a green card concurrently while on this status.
How do I find IT Support Engineer employers who actually sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Most employers are familiar with H-1B visa but not H-1B1 visa specifically. Migrate Mate filters job listings by H-1B1 visa filing history, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored Singaporean nationals and understand the consular process. This saves significant time compared to approaching employers who'd need to research the visa category from scratch.
What documentation should I bring to the U.S. Embassy interview for an IT Support Engineer H-1B1 application?
Bring your certified LCA, the DS-160 confirmation, your passport, a passport photo, the visa fee receipt, your degree certificate and transcripts, and an offer letter that details your job duties and salary. Supporting materials showing the technical complexity of your role, such as system architecture diagrams or IT infrastructure scope, can help demonstrate the position meets specialty occupation standards.
Can I switch employers after entering the U.S. on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need to return to the U.S. Embassy in Singapore for a new visa stamp tied to that employer. Unlike H-1B portability, H-1B1 visa doesn't allow you to start with a new employer while a petition is pending. Plan for a gap between roles and factor in consulate appointment availability before resigning.
