Map your credentials to SOC codes
Cloud Architect roles typically fall under SOC 15-1299 or 15-1211. Confirm which code your target employer uses before applying. Mismatched SOC classifications can delay LCA certification and complicate your specialty occupation argument at the consulate.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before entering salary discussions. Your employer's LCA must certify wages at or above the prevailing rate, so knowing the threshold prevents offers that can't be legally supported.
Search verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by their DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for Cloud Architect roles. This surfaces companies that have already navigated specialty occupation filings, reducing the chance you're educating an employer from scratch.
Target employers already enrolled in E-Verify
H-1B1 visa employment requires E-Verify participation from your sponsoring employer. Confirm enrollment before accepting an offer. Employers unfamiliar with E-Verify requirements often underestimate onboarding timelines, which can push your start date past your intended entry window.
Prepare a specialty occupation letter with role-specific evidence
Consular officers evaluate whether Cloud Architect duties genuinely require a specialized degree. Pull the O*NET occupation profile and any internal job architecture documents showing degree requirements. Generic offer letters without this context draw additional scrutiny at interview.
Clarify LCA geographic scope before signing your offer
H-1B1 visa LCAs are tied to a specific worksite location. If your Cloud Architect role involves hybrid or multi-city project work, ensure your employer files separate LCA notices for each worksite. Gaps in coverage can trigger compliance issues during USCIS or DOL audits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cloud Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes. Cloud Architect positions require specialized knowledge in systems design, distributed infrastructure, and cloud platforms, and employers typically require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related engineering field. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation status based on whether the role normally requires a specific degree, and Cloud Architect consistently meets that standard. The O*NET profile for the closest SOC codes supports a degree requirement, which strengthens your consulate application.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for Cloud Architect roles?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely, which means a qualified Cloud Architect from Singapore can secure a role any time of year rather than waiting for April registration and an October start. The annual cap of 5,400 Singapore slots goes unfilled each year. The trade-off is that H-1B1 does not allow dual intent, so green card pathways require a separate strategy, while H-1B holders can pursue permanent residency more directly.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas for Cloud Architect positions?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, showing which employers have previously certified LCAs for Cloud Architect or closely related specialty occupation roles. This is more reliable than asking recruiters upfront, since many employers are willing to sponsor but haven't specifically done H-1B1 visa before. A track record of LCA filings signals an HR and legal team already familiar with the compliance requirements.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if I switch Cloud Architect roles or employers?
Changing employers requires your new sponsor to file a fresh LCA with DOL and support a new H-1B1 visa application, since H-1B1 status is employer-specific and does not carry H-1B portability protections. You'll need to apply for a new visa at the consulate rather than simply transferring your petition. Plan a gap-free transition by ensuring your new employer's LCA is certified before your last day with the previous employer to avoid any period of unauthorized employment.
Can my employer file the H-1B1 petition through USCIS instead of going to the consulate?
Your employer can file an I-129 petition with USCIS for H-1B1 visa status, which is the route if you're already in the United States and changing status from another visa category. However, most Singaporean applicants apply directly at a U.S. consulate in Singapore, which is faster and skips the USCIS adjudication queue. Consular processing is generally the preferred route for Cloud Architects who are outside the United States at the time of their initial application.
