Verify your degree matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires the Managing Director position to qualify as a specialty occupation tied to a specific field. A general management degree may not satisfy this if the employer's job description lists broad leadership duties without a defined disciplinary requirement.
Target employers with existing LCA filings
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies that have already filed Labor Condition Applications for Managing Director or senior leadership roles, confirming they understand H-1B1 visa sponsorship and aren't encountering it for the first time with your application.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Your employer must certify on the LCA that your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for Managing Director in that metro area. Use OFLC Wage Search to look up Wage Level III or IV benchmarks before salary discussions begin.
Prepare board-level documentation for specialty occupation
Consular officers scrutinize senior executive roles for specialty occupation eligibility. Bring your degree transcripts, an employer letter detailing the technical or analytical functions of the role, and any professional certifications that tie your background to the specific discipline.
Clarify the LCA covers your actual worksite
Managing Directors who oversee multiple offices or travel between client sites create LCA compliance risk for employers. Confirm with your employer that the certified LCA reflects your primary worksite, and that they understand DOL obligations for any secondary locations.
Understand the consulate timeline for your visa stamp
Unlike H-1B visa, H-1B1 Singapore applications go directly to the U.S. embassy in Singapore without USCIS adjudication. Most consular decisions on H-1B visa1 petitions come within a few business days of the interview, so plan your start date around appointment availability, not USCIS processing queues.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Managing Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. A Managing Director role qualifies if it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific discipline, such as finance, engineering, or information technology. Broadly defined executive roles listing generic leadership duties without a defined field often fail this test at the consulate. The employer's job description and your degree must align on a specific specialty.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Managing Director candidates?
H-1B1 Singapore bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and is processed at the U.S. embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS. The annual cap of 5,400 visas has never filled, so Singaporean professionals aren't competing in a random selection. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, meaning you can't pursue a green card concurrently while on this status.
How can I find employers who have sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas for Managing Director roles?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified Labor Condition Application filing history for senior leadership roles, so you can focus outreach on companies that have already navigated H-1B1 visa sponsorship. This is faster than cold-applying to companies that may not know the process or have never filed for a Singaporean national before.
What happens if my Managing Director title changes after the LCA is certified?
If your role, duties, or worksite change materially after the LCA is certified, your employer must file an amended LCA reflecting the updated terms before the change takes effect. For Managing Directors who take on broader responsibilities or relocate to a new metro area, non-compliance with DOL LCA requirements can jeopardize your status.
Can a Managing Director on H-1B1 Singapore sponsor a spouse for work authorization?
H-1B1 visa dependents, including spouses, are admitted on H-4 status. H-4 visa holders are not automatically authorized to work in the United States. Unlike H-4 spouses of certain H-1B holders with approved I-140 petitions, H-4 dependents of H-1B1 holders are not eligible for an Employment Authorization Document under current USCIS rules.
