Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Product Engineer
Align your degree field to the role
H-1B1 visa requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to Product Engineering. A degree in mechanical, industrial, or systems engineering maps cleanly. A business or unrelated STEM degree needs a strong equivalency argument before your employer files.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Search the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your target employer has certified Labor Condition Applications for product or engineering roles. Employers with no LCA history often lack internal processes for H-1B1 sponsorship, which stalls offers late in hiring.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsors
Filter Product Engineer roles on Migrate Mate to see which employers have active H-1B1 Singapore filing history. This cuts your search to companies already familiar with the consular application process, saving weeks of back-and-forth with unprepared HR teams.
Request the LCA before your interview rounds end
Your employer must file the DOL Labor Condition Application before you can book your consulate appointment. Ask during the offer stage, not after signing, so the DOL's seven-business-day certification window doesn't delay your start date.
Clarify dual intent limitations with your hiring manager
H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so openly discussing future green card sponsorship during hiring can complicate your visa application. Separate those conversations and address permanent residency only after you've secured status and established yourself in the role.
Prepare a specialty occupation evidence file early
Consular officers assess whether Product Engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation for your specific employer. Gather your job description, degree transcripts, and any professional credentials before the offer stage so you're not scrambling after the LCA certifies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as mechanical, industrial, systems, or electrical engineering. The consular officer evaluates the specific job duties, not just the title. If your employer's job description lists a broad degree requirement or treats the degree as preferred rather than required, that weakens the specialty occupation argument and should be resolved before your interview.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Product Engineers?
H-1B1 skips the lottery entirely and is processed at the consulate rather than through USCIS, which is faster for most Singaporean applicants. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so pursuing a green card while on H-1B1 requires careful planning. H-1B allows dual intent and employer-sponsored permanent residency without the same complications, but availability depends on the annual lottery.
How do I find employers who will sponsor my H-1B1 Singapore visa for a Product Engineer position?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify employers with verified H-1B1 Singapore filing history for engineering roles. Searching by occupation lets you filter out companies that have never filed an LCA for product or engineering titles, which significantly narrows your list to employers who already understand the sponsorship process and are more likely to move forward.
Can I renew my H-1B1 visa from inside the United States?
H-1B1 is a consular-only visa, meaning renewals require you to return to Singapore or apply at an eligible third-country consulate. There's no USCIS change-of-status process for H-1B1 renewals the way there is for H-1B. Your employer needs to file a new LCA with DOL each renewal cycle, and you'll need to book a new consulate appointment, so plan your travel timing around the seven-business-day LCA certification window.
What documentation does a Singaporean Product Engineer need for the consulate interview?
You'll need your certified Labor Condition Application, a support letter from your employer detailing your role and specialty occupation qualification, your academic transcripts and degree certificates, your DS-160 confirmation, and a valid Singaporean passport. If your degree is from a non-U.S. institution, bring any credential evaluation documents your employer has prepared. Consular officers may also ask for evidence that your specific engineering duties require your degree field.
