Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Development Manager
Verify your credentials match specialty occupation standards
Pull your O*NET profile for Development Manager and confirm your degree and field experience align with the agricultural operations management tasks listed. Gaps between your credentials and the job description are the most common reason DOL flags H-2A visa petitions during review.
Target employers who have filed H-2A petitions before
Search the OFLC Wage Search database for farms and agribusinesses that have certified H-2A positions in development or operations management roles. Repeat filers already understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer when timelines extend.
Search Migrate Mate for verified H-2A sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters Development Manager listings by employers with confirmed H-2A filing history, saving you from applying to operations that have never sponsored seasonal agricultural workers. Use it to identify active openings before the DOL job-order window closes.
Confirm the seasonal period covers your full contract
H-2A status is tied to a specific start and end date on the employer's DOL certification. Before signing any offer, verify the certified work period covers the full duration of your role so your visa validity doesn't lapse mid-season.
Ask employers to document housing and transport obligations in writing
DOL requires H-2A employers to provide free housing and inbound transportation, but the specific arrangements vary by operation. Get the housing location, type, and transit plan confirmed before your consular interview so you aren't negotiating logistics after your visa is stamped.
Understand the AEWR applies from your first day on site
The Adverse Effect Wage Rate is set annually by DOL and applies to all H-2A workers regardless of the prevailing wage for the role. Cross-reference the AEWR for your work state against the offer letter to confirm the employer's stated wage meets the current federal minimum before you accept.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Development Manager jobs that offer H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Development Manager positions with confirmed H-2A sponsorship history. Standard job boards don't filter by visa filing history, so you can't tell which employers have actually certified H-2A positions before. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed with DOL for agricultural management roles, so you're applying to operations that already understand the sponsorship process.
What are the employer's legal obligations under H-2A for this role?
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal and state health standards, pay inbound and outbound transportation costs, and guarantee wages at either the Adverse Effect Wage Rate or the prevailing wage for the role, whichever is higher. These obligations are enforceable through DOL and apply from your first day. Employers must also file a certified job order before the H-2A petition reaches USCIS.
Does a Development Manager role qualify as a seasonal position under H-2A?
H-2A is limited to temporary or seasonal agricultural work, so the employer must demonstrate the Development Manager position is tied to a defined agricultural cycle rather than a permanent operational need. Roles focused on overseeing planting, harvest planning, or crop development programs during a specific season typically qualify. Year-round management positions without a clear seasonal peak do not.
Can I extend my H-2A status if the agricultural project runs longer than expected?
H-2A status can be extended, but the employer must file an amended petition with USCIS before your current authorized period expires and must demonstrate the extension falls within the same temporary or seasonal need. Extensions are granted in increments and cannot exceed three years total. DOL must also certify any changes to the original job order terms before USCIS will approve the extension.
