The Plant Health Care Program Specialist is responsible for protecting and improving the health of trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants through professional inspection, diagnosis, treatment, and preventative care. This position provides on-site plant health services at residential and commercial customer properties by identifying insects, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stressors while developing and implementing customized treatment plans.
The Plant Health Care Program Specialist performs hands-on treatments, including soil applications, tree injections, trunk injections, foliar sprays, and other Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions. In addition to performing treatments, this role documents all findings, treatment recommendations, products applied, and customer interactions to ensure accurate service records and exceptional customer care.
Success in this position requires strong plant health knowledge, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, effective, and environmentally responsible solutions.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plant Health Assessments & Treatments
- Travel to customer properties to perform scheduled plant health evaluations and service appointments, with visits averaging 45–60 minutes.
- Inspect trees, shrubs, palms, and ornamental plants to identify insects, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, environmental stress, and structural concerns, and determine appropriate treatment recommendations.
- Perform hands-on plant health treatments, including soil and trunk injections, soil drenches, foliar applications, fertilization, and insect, disease, and preventative treatments.
- Safely mix, handle, transport, and apply pesticides, fertilizers, and other treatment products in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform basic pruning and trimming to support plant health and remove damaged or diseased material when appropriate.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed service records for every customer visit, including inspection findings, treatment recommendations, products applied, application rates, quantities used, service dates, and treatment results.
- Develop and maintain customized treatment schedules and long-term plant health care plans.
- Record all services and customer communications within company software and mobile applications.
- Ensure all pesticide application records and regulatory documentation are accurate and compliant.
Customer Service
- Build strong relationships with customers through professional communication and exceptional service, explaining findings and recommendations in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Educate customers on plant health issues, treatment options, and preventative care, and answer questions regarding insects, diseases, tree health, irrigation, fertilization, and seasonal care.
- Communicate follow-up recommendations and future treatment schedules.
- Promote additional plant health services when appropriate to improve customer landscapes.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Comply with all pesticide handling, storage, transportation, and application regulations.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all treatment applications.
- Maintain company equipment, spray systems, injection equipment, and service vehicles, and ensure vehicles, equipment, and chemicals are kept in a safe and compliant manner.

QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required
- Valid Certified Applicator License.
- Valid Qualified Applicator License (QAL).
- ISA Certified Arborist certification.
- Working knowledge of common insects, plant diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental plant stress.
- Knowledge of pesticide application techniques and safety procedures.
- Basic knowledge of tree and shrub pruning techniques.
- Ability to diagnose plant health problems and recommend appropriate treatment solutions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately document treatments and maintain service records.
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily service route.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
- Experience in plant health care, arboriculture, landscape maintenance, horticulture, nursery operations, or pest management.
- Experience with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
- Knowledge of ornamental trees, palms, shrubs, and landscape plants.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

This position is very active, requiring the employee to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day while talking and hearing as needed. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. This role involves extended periods working outdoors, potentially in extreme conditions including rain, heat, sun, and wind, and requires the ability to travel frequently throughout the assigned territory and conduct outdoor site visits in varying weather conditions.
