Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Billing Specialist
Pull your O*NET occupation profile first
Billing Specialist falls under SOC code 43-3021. Review your O*NET profile before applying so you can match your resume language to the exact duties and skills DOL reviewers expect to see in an H-2B visa job order.
Check prevailing wages before negotiating offers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for billing specialist roles in your target state. Your offered wage must meet or exceed that level, and knowing the number in advance prevents last-minute offer surprises.
Target employers with seasonal billing volume spikes
H-2B sponsorship requires employers to prove temporary need. Prioritize healthcare clinics, resorts, and tax-season service firms that can document predictable billing volume peaks tied to a specific season or event cycle.
Search H-2B-sponsored billing roles on Migrate Mate
Filter your job search by visa type to find billing specialist positions where employers have active H-2B filing history. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you're not applying blind to employers who won't sponsor.
File before the cap window closes each half-year
USCIS splits the 66,000 annual H-2B cap into two halves: 33,000 for October through March and 33,000 for April through September. Confirm your employer starts the DOL certification process at least 75 days before your start date to avoid cap exhaustion.
Gather billing credentials before your employer files
Collect proof of any accounts receivable, medical billing, or EHR software certifications you hold. Your employer's attorney will need these documents to support the specialty of the position in the I-129 petition narrative.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Billing Specialist jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search. It filters job listings by visa sponsorship type and shows which employers have H-2B filing history using DOL Labor Condition Application data. That means you're only seeing roles where the employer has already demonstrated willingness to sponsor, not positions that might consider it eventually.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I need to start my job search?
Yes. USCIS allocates 33,000 H-2B visas for each half of the fiscal year, and cap numbers can fill within days of opening. Your employer must complete the DOL temporary labor certification before USCIS can file the I-129 petition, so the full timeline typically requires starting the process at least 75 to 90 days before your intended start date.
Can a Billing Specialist role qualify for H-2B sponsorship if the work is year-round?
H-2B sponsorship requires the employer to demonstrate that the need is temporary, not permanent. A billing specialist role qualifies if the employer can document a seasonal peak, a one-time project, or an intermittent spike in billing volume. A year-round, permanent billing position does not meet DOL's temporary need standard and will not pass the labor certification review.
What documents should I have ready when an employer agrees to sponsor my H-2B visa?
Prepare a current resume matching the duties in your O*NET occupation profile, copies of any billing or accounts receivable certifications, and proof of prior relevant work experience. Your employer's immigration attorney will use these to draft the job order and support the I-129 petition. Having them organized before the employer's DOL filing window opens prevents delays.
