H-2B Visa Bookkeeper Jobs
Bookkeeper jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are concentrated in seasonal industries where businesses need temporary financial recordkeeping support during peak periods. Employers must secure a temporary labor certification from the DOL before filing with USCIS, and the 66,000 annual cap means timing your application early in the fiscal year matters.

Document your bookkeeping credentials before applying
Gather transcripts, certifications like QuickBooks or Bookkeeper certifications, and reference letters from past employers. H-2B visa petitions don't require a degree, but documented credentials strengthen your employer's case during DOL certification review.
Target employers in cap-driven seasonal industries
Resorts, summer camps, seafood processors, and event venues hire bookkeepers seasonally and have established H-2B pipelines. These employers understand the DOL temporary labor certification process and are more likely to sponsor repeat seasonal workers.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify employers with confirmed H-2B filing history in hospitality and seasonal industries. Filtering by DOL Labor Condition Application data shows which businesses have sponsored bookkeeping and administrative roles before.
Ask employers about their January filing timeline
H-2B visas split 33,000 slots between October and April start dates. Employers filing for summer bookkeeping roles must submit DOL applications months in advance, so confirm early whether a prospective employer plans to file in the first-half allocation.
Verify your job offer covers the full temporary period
USCIS requires that H-2B employment be genuinely temporary, typically one to three years maximum. Your offer letter must specify start and end dates tied to the employer's seasonal need, not just a general employment agreement.
Use O*NET to align your job duties with the H-2B petition
Look up the Bookkeeper occupation profile in O*NET to match your listed duties to the standard occupational description. Employers reference this during DOL certification, and a duties mismatch is a common reason petitions face delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find bookkeeper jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for bookkeeper roles with confirmed H-2B sponsorship history. The platform surfaces employers based on DOL filing data, so you're looking at businesses that have actually sponsored temporary workers, not just companies that haven't ruled it out. Focus on seasonal employers in hospitality, recreation, and seafood processing where bookkeeping support is tied to a predictable busy season.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances as a bookkeeper applicant?
The H-2B program issues 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split into two allotments of 33,000 for start dates before and after April 1. Slots fill quickly, and Congress has authorized supplemental allocations in some years but not consistently. Employers filing for summer bookkeeping roles need to submit DOL temporary labor certification applications months ahead, so confirming your employer's filing plan before January is essential to avoiding cap exhaustion.
Does a bookkeeper role qualify as a temporary position for H-2B purposes?
Yes, if the employer's need for the role is genuinely seasonal or peak-load, not permanent. A resort that needs a bookkeeper only during summer operations, or a seafood processor requiring financial recordkeeping during harvest months, satisfies the DOL's temporary need standard. The employer must demonstrate in their labor certification that the position has a clear end date tied to their business cycle, not an ongoing operational need.
What documents does my H-2B sponsor employer need from me before filing?
Your employer's attorney or the employer themselves will typically need your passport, work history documentation, any bookkeeping certifications you hold, and confirmation of your current immigration status if you're already in the United States. USCIS processes the I-129 petition using information you provide, and gaps in your employment history or credential documentation can trigger requests for additional evidence that delay the entire filing timeline.
