Teaching jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are available at summer camps, language immersion programs, and seasonal educational centers that need temporary instructors for defined program cycles. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Teaching Jobs
Verify your teaching credentials translate correctly
H-2B visa teaching roles require your qualifications to match the job description the employer submitted to DOL. Get foreign degree equivalency documentation ready before applying, since employers can't amend labor certifications after filing without restarting the process.
Target employers with established seasonal program cycles
Summer camps, ski resort children's programs, and seasonal language schools file H-2B petitions annually because their programs repeat on a fixed calendar. These employers already know the DOL certification timeline and are far more prepared to sponsor you than first-time filers.
Search verified H-2B teaching employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter teaching roles by employers who have filed H-2B sponsorships before. Targeting repeat filers cuts your risk of working with an employer unfamiliar with DOL wage requirements or certification deadlines.
Apply before the winter cap filing window opens
The H-2B cap splits into two halves: October 1 for the winter half and April 1 for the summer half. Teaching programs starting in summer must file months ahead of April 1, and petitions submitted after the cap fills are rejected outright.
Confirm your employer files the prevailing wage correctly
DOL requires employers to pay the prevailing wage for your teaching role as determined by the OFLC Wage Search before certifying the labor application. If the offered wage is below the OFLC rate for your occupation and location, DOL will deny the certification.
Use O*NET to verify your role qualifies as H-2B eligible
Not all teaching roles qualify under H-2B because the visa requires the work to be genuinely temporary and seasonal. Cross-check your job duties against the O*NET occupation profile to confirm the role fits the seasonal or peak-load definition DOL uses during certification review.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find teaching jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search teaching positions specifically filtered for employers with H-2B sponsorship history. Because H-2B requires employers to complete DOL labor certification before you can be petitioned, targeting employers who have done it before dramatically improves your chances. Migrate Mate surfaces those employers so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I need to start my job search?
Yes, timing is critical. The H-2B cap is set at 66,000 visas per fiscal year, divided equally between the winter and summer halves. Once either half fills, no new petitions are accepted regardless of employer readiness. For summer teaching programs, employers typically need to begin DOL certification at least three to four months before your start date to have any realistic chance before the cap closes.
What makes a teaching role qualify as a valid H-2B position?
H-2B is reserved for temporary, non-agricultural work, so the teaching role must be seasonal, intermittent, a peak-load need, or a one-time occurrence. A summer camp instructor position tied to an eight-week program cycle fits clearly. Year-round tutoring contracts or ongoing curriculum development roles typically don't qualify because they lack the temporary nature DOL requires for certification.
Can my employer switch my job duties after the H-2B petition is approved?
No. The H-2B petition is tied to the exact job description and worksite the employer submitted during DOL labor certification. Substantive changes to your duties, location, or hours after approval require the employer to file an amended petition with USCIS. Working outside the certified role can jeopardize your status and the employer's ability to sponsor H-2B workers in future years.
