Healthcare Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare assistant in Texas?
Most healthcare assistant roles in Texas require completing a state-approved clinical training program, such as a nurse aide or patient care technician course offered through community colleges or vocational schools. Nurse aide roles specifically require passing the Texas Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation, administered through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, and being listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. Other healthcare assistant positions may rely on employer-specific training and CPR certification rather than a state credential.
Which companies hire healthcare assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring healthcare assistants in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, CHRISTUS Health, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and long-term care networks post the most consistent openings, particularly in the Houston Medical Center corridor and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Which Texas cities have the most healthcare assistant jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas have the most healthcare assistant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from major health systems headquartered there, and San Antonio benefits from a strong combination of military-affiliated hospitals, VA facilities, and civilian health networks.
Are there remote healthcare assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Healthcare assistants primarily provide hands-on patient care, which limits remote opportunities significantly. About 1% of healthcare assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve health coaching, care coordination, or patient navigation work rather than direct bedside duties.
How can I get hired as a healthcare assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a short nurse aide training program at a Texas community college such as Austin Community College or San Jacinto College, then applying for nurse aide or patient care technician roles at long-term care facilities, which are more likely to hire new completers than acute-care hospitals. Large Texas health systems like Baylor Scott and White Health and HCA Healthcare run new-hire orientation programs that onboard candidates with minimal clinical backgrounds into entry-level patient care tech positions. Holding an active listing on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry gives candidates a clear edge over applicants with no credential.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Texas market. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
