Paramedic Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a paramedic in Texas?
To become a paramedic in Texas, you must complete a state-approved paramedic education program and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive and psychomotor exams, then apply for licensure through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Most programs require you to already hold an EMT certification before enrolling. Community colleges across Texas, including many in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio, offer accredited paramedic programs that meet state requirements.
How much do paramedics make in Texas?
Paramedics in Texas earn a median of about $57,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $41,030 for the lowest 10% to over $77,700 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire paramedics in Texas?
Employers hiring paramedics in Texas right now include Acadian Ambulance Service, Houston Methodist, and CHRISTUS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large geography and mix of urban, suburban, and rural communities means both private EMS contractors and county-based emergency services agencies maintain ongoing hiring needs throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most paramedic jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Baytown have the most paramedic openings in Texas right now. Houston leads because of its size, major trauma centers, and the density of hospital-based and private transport programs operating across Harris County, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio generate consistent demand through large municipal fire-EMS systems and regional hospital networks anchored by major health systems serving millions of residents.
Are there remote paramedic jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Paramedic work is inherently hands-on and field-based, so the vast majority of openings require on-site or in-vehicle presence. About 0% of paramedic openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in EMS education, clinical coordination, or medical billing roles that draw on paramedic credentials rather than active patient care.
How can I get hired as a paramedic in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing your Texas DSHS paramedic license and applying to new-graduate hiring cohorts at large private EMS providers like AMR or ACADIAN Ambulance, both of which staff across Texas and bring on newly licensed paramedics with structured field training programs. Volunteering with a local fire department or rural EMS district while you complete your program builds documented patient contact hours that hiring managers look for. Starting in an EMT-Basic or EMT-Advanced role at a hospital or municipal agency and requesting an internal upgrade pathway is another route that employers in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio commonly support.
Where can I find and apply to paramedic jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to paramedic jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find roles that fit your credentials and location and apply directly to each one.
