Position Summary
This position primarily coordinates company-wide training and assists with Emergency Management duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversees and manages the daily activities of firefighters, including fire/rescue operations, ensuring compliance with laws, contracts, industry standards and city and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains records, reports, and shift log; makes station and equipment assignments for assigned personnel and ensures that station and equipment maintenance is performed.
- Conducts and prepares annual employee evaluations and counsels personnel as necessary.
- Responds to emergencies such as fires, medical, hazardous materials, and/or technical rescue utilizing appropriate techniques, training and procedures.
- Participates in and assists with the delivery of required and elective training conducted for firefighter personnel; ensures skills, knowledge and readiness of the company remain at a high level of proficiency through training and safe, operational practices.
- Conducts routine semi-annual fire prevention safety surveys at the company level, to commercial facilities within response district to ensure fire code compliance with applicable laws, City ordinances and standards for building fire safety.
- Interacts with appropriate facility authorities.
- Conducts fire education and training programs to the general public within the community.
- Responds to various public assistance alarms and service calls.
- Supervises and performs a variety of routine, daily and weekly duties such maintenance, daily checkout, repairs, cleaning and upkeep of all assigned fire apparatus, mounted equipment, and fire station; maintains all relevant records and reports necessary for monitoring the upkeep of the equipment.
- Performs routine inspections and maintenance of fire hydrants within immediate response zone.
- Conducts inspections as a State Certified Fire Inspector; performs fire investigation duties as part of the Fire Investigation team
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Fire Captain- Paramedic
- Associate’s Degree in Fire Science or related field and five (5) years of experience in fire suppression or emergency services with
- Must possess Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Vehicle Extrication Technician, and Hazardous Materials Technician certifications.
- Must have completed Basic Cause and Origin Investigation.
- Must possess a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s license.
- Must possess a current Paramedic license.
